here's how my dream went: my mother, sister, and myself, went to a family friend's house to find a police car pulling into the drive way. we pulled into the neighbor's driveway and went inside. i went outside to look around, when a large praying mantis came out from a bush. i was astounded, because i've never seen a live one before. it came over to me and would follow me as i walked. i went inside to show everyone, but as i was walking up the stairs, i looked down to my left side to find our friend looking up at me, and she was still alive. i just continued inside. they were all amazed at how large it was, and how it followed me. one of the officers then showed us the body of our friend, which i had just seen alive. im guessing she was dead then, but im unsure. that's when the mantis flew into my shirt and hid. then i woke up...

The praying mantis is an indication that you are in a dysfunctional or destructive relationship with a female, it could be a family relationship, or it could be a romantic relationship. As the mantis follows you around, it is a reminder that this relationship is following you around and affecting your daily life to a negative effect. The cop shows up as a "higher authority", you are mentally "policing" the situation. Your friends and family are unaware of the situation, which is why you tried to show it to them, or they may be aware that something is going on, but maybe not aware of the extent of it, which is why they are amazed at how big it is. That the mantis jumps into your shirt to hide leaves me with a feeling that this is a very manipulative relationship, and alot of the things this person is doing, are when you are alone with this person, hidden from the view of others. I'm not sure where your friend factors into this dream, if she is the one who is causing this problem for you, and she is alive, then dead by the end of the dream, it could be an indication that you need to end this relationship, and basically regard her as being "dead" to you. If there is such a relationship in your life, do try talking to your family about it, maybe they have been wondering what is going on with you, if you haven't been yourself lately, and they can offer you a reality check, if this person is saying or doing things that are undermining your self esteem or relationship with the world.......good luck....

You're right with the worry part, and my best guess would be that it's a female. As far as insects go, the praying mantis is one of the more feminine ones in appearance, and it also devours the male. I'm not big on bugs but I think everyone knows those few facts.
THEREFORE
You subconscious could be telling you that you feel smothered by a female or you could be losing part of yourself in a relationship of some sorts. Be it your mother or a significant other. Maybe even a female boss. Just take a look at you current situation and see where it fits. GOOD LUCK!

The girl was merely the vehicle, and your mother yelling at the girl was to help you recall the dream upon awakening. The insects are the important aspect. Butterflies indicate transformation, but they also can represent spiritual matters. The hummingbird represents the soul. The praying mantis is cannibalistic. So, this dream indicates that you should exercise caution in your choices in life, guard your most sacred aspect, which is your soul, and understand the difference between right and wrong, and the challenges of being a spirit in a physical body. Balance the two in your life, and again, guard against wrong choices. There are many of these choices that you will face in life. How you proceed is up to you, but your soul is warning you to choose well.

WOW!!! I had a very similar dream a few days ago! It is really rare for a dream to have such a big impact on my and to be so symbolic. I think that beatlefan has it right on. "The praying mantis is an indication that you are in a dysfunctional or destructive relationship with a female, it could be a family relationship, or it could be a romantic relationship. As the mantis follows you around, it is a reminder that this relationship is following you around and affecting your daily life to a negative effect."
Here is my dream and the background story:
I had a dream around 8am of what I think was a praying mantis type bug following me around in my living room. It was normal sized. I would move from one couch to another and the bug would follow me there and then lay on its back near the left side of my left foot. It was non threatening but concerned me a little bit that it was following me. I moved to the chair and loveseat and it followed me each time, doing the same thing. I then got up and went into my bedroom and laid down in my bed on my back. The mantis crawled up on my stomach. Suddenly 2 stingers appeared out of its rear and it raised up and stung me! I woke up in a frantic panic brushing the bug off of me and screaming.
The background story is that earlier that night my girlfriend and i got in an argument and broke up, sort-of, but she slept next to me that night. The reason for the argument was that i told her i was going on a trip regardless that she couldn't make it because she couldn't get off of work. This made her feel unimportant in my consideration and i felt that she was trying to control me and lock me down when i didn't want to miss and then resent her for missing. I tend to be selfish about things like that and have fears about being locked into a relationship and not having the strength to get out of it. i felt i was pushing her away and was not very apologetic for my actions and words. I lost her trust long ago by being open about sexual attraction to other women when intoxicated and we have been working on restoring that but it has been very difficult. Part of me feels i have been wrong and part of me feels i need to cut free.
Anyways, i am amazed at the similarities of the dream. what was going on in your relationship life?

Hmm... -Sounds like something's "bugging" you. -Sleep on it some more & see if any Locusts show up. Could be you're about to be visited by a Plague (of Relatives coming for Xmas- perhaps?!) from the East... :)

Maybe you are stressed about something. Is you mate going to eat you after sex? That is what that particular bug is known for.... why do I know this?
