There are lots of stupid questions.
The number one here is "Am I pregnant?" Why are you asking a bunch of strangers?
In college, I hated it when people ask a question that shows they weren't listening or never picked up the book.

I agree - but have a couple of follow up points. There are no stupid questions, and that is how it should be treated on Y!A etiquette. I get tired of people blasting someone for their legitimate questions on here. However, I would point out, there ARE silly questions. By that I mean they are asked by someone who wants to ask a silly question. Sometimes those are annoying.
And finally, every time I hear this quote, as much as I believe in it, I can't help but be reminded of South Park. On South Park the quote is "There are no stupid questions. Just stupid people."

I agree. I think the only stupid question is the one not asked. I'm training a girl at work who took my old position, and I always tell her to ask me questions when she's unsure about something, don't just guess or be afraid of asking. Not asking and then doing a procedure incorrectly is far worse. I never criticize or make fun of anyone who asks questions. It can take a lot of courage in some situations.

No, I don't. There was this kid in my class. We were taking a test, and he asked, "Do we write our name on the test?" That, to me is a really stupid question. But, I also agree that there are stupid answers. My friends and I were on the bus. My friend asked some random person this question : How many years are there in a month? The person was like, Uh... seven? OK, If that's not a stupid answer, I don't know what is.

What is the motive for asking the question? I ask stupid questions frequently to make people laugh. If the question is sincere, then, NO...there is no such thing as a stupid question. Just impatient answerers.

It should be there are no stupid sincere questions. There are plenty of stupid questions - lazy questions that people ask so they don't have to attempt to find the answers themselves, those questions are born of stupidity...

Of course, there are stupid questions. Have you read some of the things people have asked here?
Unless you are in school. Then ask away. That is what you are supposed to do.

I think the saying should be "You are stupid if you don't know, but you don't ask." There are stupid questions. Most of them are asked by smarta$$es.
