My back has been hurting me on and off for a couple months, but lately it's mostly been on. It's a sharp pain in my upper right back, but near the spine. It hurts when I am trying to sleep and also when i sit up. I thought it was due to slouching so I have been trying to sit up straight but it hasn't made my back feel any better. Do you know what the problem might be?

Could be a pinched nerve, herniated spinal disk, or muscle strain. You might want to have a doctor examine you just in case.

Slouching could be part of the problem, but I would definately seek medical assistance. Sharp pain, especially in the back, is not good especially for young people. You can only find out if you ask a doctor. but some muscle may have over-stretched and the brain reacts to it by sending sharp signals to the area.

stress, or if your in school and you have a backpack it could be too heavy, try lightening the load. if your in a sport and doing weighttraining that could be it or if your in a sport that requires running you could have bad posture. Slouching for long periods which you seem to have taken care of.Bad sleeping position, bad matress, or having to much "fun". Lack of sleep could also be the culprit. Hope i helped.

Use a hard bed to sleep and I think you will get relief from the pain.

It is probably stress related. But if you are really concerned then see a doctor.
