Could be yeast, could be an infection, could be mites...
Here is what you do: call your veterinarian and set up an appointment. Your vet will take a squab of the discharge from his ear and prescribe proper medication to deal with the issue at hand. This is something that needs to be seen sooner rather than later. If the infection is severe enough your dog could suffer long-term problems or hearing loss. wish you luck!!

My dog had the same thing a couple months ago, it is probably an ear infection which causes wax build up, although it could be earmites, but if it stinks it's most likely an ear infection. Call your vet and they can give some antibiotic ear drops for your dog. And you can ask what you shouldn't give your dog, corn, flour, bread, and pretzels can cause ear infections in dogs.

Time for a trip to the vet. It may be earmites, it may be an infection. Either way, you need medicine from the vet.

Mine does this ALL the time.
In her case, it's allergies. In many cases, it's yeast infections, and sometimes ear mites.
You would be able to see the mites though - if you don't, then your dog probably doesn't have mites.
The brown stuff you refer to is yeast.
You can get an ear wipe/cleanser from the pet store, or, to be safe, contact your Vet and he can give you an ear flush like "T8"

"Vet Tech" is right. I agree with yeast, infection, or mites.
