The euro did not exist in 2001 ? it started for accounting and banking in 1999, the physical actual coins and notes did not come out until 2002, technically you are wrong, the French could have used Euro's as early as 2001 to buy from Saddam, think you need to do more homework yourself.

But the mad scientist above, there is nothing wrong with Freedom Fries I eat them all the time, and b....ocks to the french !

France didn't join the Coalition and opposed the UN Resolution supporting military action for two reasons:

1. Sadam was starting to sell oil for Euros, which would have saved them a ton of money.

2. Sadam owed them a little over $80 billion US, which they will now never see again.

So put away your Freedom Fries. If the shoe had been on the other foot, any Republican would have done the same.

edit. Paddy, ye've been at the Bushmills again. This all happened in 2003. And dollars are still the standard currency for international oil sales.

A French firm (Compagnie Petrol De Francais) already has 85% of Iraqi oil production under contracts which extend back to the days of the Ba'athist regime under Saddam Hussein. And they didn't have to commit one soldier to get that deal. They can just sit back and watch the "mainstream media" run one op-ed piece after another saying that our involvement in Iraq is trading "blood for oil". And the really pitiful part is that the media and the public swallow these mule muffins like they were fine cake.

no, your suggestion is carefully fake. although the thought of invading Iraq for oil isn't based once you have the oil for loose, that is to have a protection stress presence in the region to be certain the oil furnish isn't shrink off. the topic with that concept is that the logistics of gett the oil from there to right here under adversarial situations might make it not possible to accomplish that. Russia is a lots larger u . s . a ., that is greater cutting-ingredient, with greater human beings and the ,protection stress infrastructure, alongside with ICBMs which will transport nuclear weapons to the US to contemplate that. the US had to discover a backwater u . s . a . which could not combat back, and after 10 years of poverty, Iraq grow to be ripe for the unlawful invasion. from snopes... the appropriate six worldwide locations (by skill of share of finished u . s . a . of u.s. imports) providing crude oil to u.s. of u.s. in January 2002 have been: Saudi Arabia: sixteen.9% Mexico: 15.one million% Canada: 15.0% Venezuela: 14.4% Iraq: 11.4% Nigeria: 5.9.%
