My husband had been having pain in his chest area, he already had been taking potassium supplements because he had been diagnosed with low potassium about a year ago, he also has really bad GERD.

My question is, he went to the ER a few weeks ago because he was having really bad chest pain and his heart beat was really weird. They did blood work, chest x-ray, and hooked him up to the heart monitor. They told him he was having PVC's and that the chest pain was probably related to his GERD.

He followed up with a regular visit to his DR. and gave him a new heartburn medication, and a antihistimine that is used for anxiety. His heartburn is pretty much gone and he is feeling better in that area, but he is still having chest pains daily and is very uncomfortable.

I am thinking this is due to his low potassium levels, which the Dr. said maybe we will look into why it is low your next visit if the medication didn't work. Has anyone else had this and what causes low potassium?

Low potassium levels can cause heart arrythmias and PVC's, especially if there's several in a row shouldn't necessarily hurt other than just feel uncomfortable. He really should have that taken care of because low potassium (anything less than 3.5) can cause some real heart damage. He needs to get on a multivitamin and have a banana every other day.

Glad to hear they got the GERD fixed though. In the ER, we often give older folks with chest pain some Maalox. If it clears up, it was just gerd. If it doesn't then it's a real heart problem.

I take Prevacid I got off Prosilec and Ozemeprol because of swelling ankles and higher bp. While getting my stomach scoped today my GP left me a message that my Potassium was down and prescribed Potassium CL ER. I feel better in just 2 hours. I could hardly walk at times my chest hurt so much. Shoulder ache too. Hopefully this does it.

Chronic heartburn is usually from acid reflux - stomach acid is getting past the little valve and into your esophagus. You also should know some natural ways to treat your heartburn. Learn them here https://tr.im/acidrefluxguide

The most immediate thing you can do is to stop drinking coffee and cola. Smoking is not good either, but that might be harder to stop. Don't over-eat. Don't lie down too soon after eating. Don't burp too much - this carries acid up with the burp.

heartburn the most common symptom of acid reflux disease (also known as gastroespohageal reflux disease, or GERD). Heartburn feels like a burning pain in the center of the chest. It is caused by acid from the stomach backing up into the esophagus. is a symptom of acid reflux disease (GERD) Also known as Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease

low potassium is usually caused by inadequate dietary intake of potassium rich foods combined with high urine output. It doesn't cause chest pain however.
