Word of mouth is definately best, but to get started, advertise at baby friendly facilities like gymboree or mommy and me classes. Once you get going, just do a great job and the jobs will roll in!

Honestly, I think that word of mouth is the best way. If someone knows what you do, and you are good at it, then they will want you to baby-sit, and will refer you. I would not get a baby-sitter from a convenience store flyer.....

Put up posters at the local library, pizza place, and convenience store...those places always got me noticed.

All the parents I know find out from references from other moms. Although some parents are stingy when they find a great one :) They really are.
