The Quran permits that a Muslim man marry a Jewish or Christian woman. That's what it says in Chapter 5, verse 5
"This day are (all) things good and pure made lawful unto you. The food of the People of the Book is lawful unto you and yours is lawful unto them. (Lawful unto you in marriage) are (not only) chaste women who are [Muslim] believers, but chaste women among the People of the Book, revealed before your time,- when ye give them their due dowers, and desire chastity, not lewdness, nor secret intrigues if any one rejects faith, fruitless is his work, and in the Hereafter he will be in the ranks of those who have lost (all spiritual good).

I know a Muslim friend whose wife is Jewish. There are so many other cases as well, but this one is of somebody I know personally.

It must be made clear, however, that a Muslim woman may not marry a non-Muslim. The reason for the difference is that usually the man is the one who has the authority in the house. (yes this might be changing in a few places but generally it has been the same for thousands of years in the whole world.) A Muslim man recognizes Jesus and Moses as true Prophets from God, and he must respect their followers. So his wife will not expect to be insulted in her own home. On the other hand, if the husband is non-Muslim, then he doesn't recognize Prophet Muhammad and it will be difficult for a Muslim woman to practice her faith living with such a person.

Mr. Reserved says: "muslims hate jews and christians it says in the koran.." I wonder where he read it because I've been reading the Quran regularly from beginning to end for over 20 years and yet I haven't seen any such thing!

Peace/salaam.

I knew a Muslim woman who married a Jew in the London area,England, and she is in fear of some relatives(not her parents) who threatened to kill her because a Jewish woman may marry a Muslim man(as long as the children will be raised Muslim) but a Muslim woman may marry only a Muslim man.
The British Jewish man is not shul-going(an active member of a synagogue) nor is the British Muslim ( of South Asian family) at all observant. However, both observant Muslims and Jews keep very similar dietary rules and ,in theory, they could get along since they both have the same God of Abraham.
This couple(married only a short time) are very Westernized(both born and raised in the London area) and respect each other's religions(which they do not practice ritually).

The couple has no children as of yet( to my knowledge) and they do not intend to raise any children either "Muslimly or Jewishly" but both sets of potential grandparents said that they would not "overly interfere" and the couple is adamant about this latter.

They share a great deal politically in terms of British or local politics but they"agree to disagree" about Israel, Palestine,Pakistan, etc

Both have traditional conservative"Christian British morals" (even though neigher are Christian or want to become Christian)and are very committed to each other.
Both have full-time jobs and share a circle of friends who are from different ethnic groups.
Both share the same "values and principles" and thoughts on child-rearing and money-management.
Both think that communicating feelings and thoughts to each other is important and resoececting each other's feelings and convictions is important.

A Muslim man can marry a Jew or a Christian, but a Muslim woman cannot....

Muslims and Jews marry about as often as Muslims and Christians marry.

I knew a couple who married; she was Jewish, he was Muslim - it was in Israel. We were all on kibbutz together. Nobody seemed to have a problem with it!

Please ignore what JAKERO said. Judaism is not remotely 'racist' - he's absurd to say this when everyone knows that we are usually the victims of racism!

And we certainly do not regard non Jews as 'cattle', he's talking utter rubbish.

there was a report on one of the news shows, 48 hours or one of those, that featured several mixed-religion couples in israel. it also talked about a group that is promoting tolerance between muslims and jews there.

it was several years ago, so i don't remember exactly when or which show it was.
