After reading the insert the pharmacy gave me it says specifically NOT to mix the 2. I called the Pharmacy - who did not know I was taking Prozac because I get that at my Psychiatrist office and they said they werent sure but they do know it says not to mix the 2. I know I should be going by the Drug insert but my doctor said he wont write a script for Hydrocodone and I am in PAIN!!!!!!! Does anyone know why the 2 cannot be mixed?

I have chronic pain, depression and anxiety. I've been on Klonopin, Paxil (just like Prozac) AND morphene and codeine for terrible pain.
I think you should call 2-3 more pharmacists. They are SO smart. Ask them if Prozac and Hydrocodone mix alright. You should not be having to suffer! I take it the Ultram isn't doing the trick. Good luck! I feel your pain. :)

Theoretically, you can get serotonin syndrome if you mix Prozac and Ultram. Serotonin syndrome is very bad. It can actually kill you. However, it is considered to be a minor potential interaction between Prozac and Ultram. Normally the degree of serotonin increase is not enough to cause the reaction.

Because mixing them causes some pretty serious side effects. See another Doctor and tell him you are taking Prozac and are afraid to mix Ultram with with it he should write you a prescription for another drug.

If the doctor prescribing the pain drug is not the same as the prozac drug, you have to tell the pain drug what drugs you are taking, putting on, even eye drops.

1) By reading about interactions looks like this pain killer could inhibite or maximize the effects of your prozac, so you will have to be aware of this issue if you decide to take it.
2) By reading about prozac (fluoxetine) interactions looks like it could be very dangerous, even deadly.
3) By reading about interaccions I would not take it until very sure. Take some over the counter until you can reach your doctor.
4)Ana Nicole "died accidentally" by mixing some drugs including prozac

2 reading ) - May interact "a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) such as fluoxetine (Prozac), fluvoxamine (Luvox), paroxetine (Paxil), sertraline (Zoloft), or citalopram (Celexa);..."

3 reading) -"Prozac (generic name fluoxetine) belongs to a family of medicines called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Prozac is often used for depression, but may also be prescribed for other conditions including anxiety disorders and eating disorders.
Sarafem is a drug recently approved for premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). It contains the same active ingredient as Prozac and Prozac Weekly (fluoxetine). For this reason, you should not take Prozac with Sarafem, Prozac Weekly or fluoxetine. "

4 reading) -Ana Nicole Smith son died of a lethal combination of Zoloft, Lexapro and methadone.
Ana N. hersefl died of a lethal combination of accidental drug overdose of the sedative chloral hydrate that became increasingly lethal when combined with other prescription drugs in her system, specifically 4 benzodiazepines: Klonopin (Clonazepam), Ativan (Lorazepam), Serax (Oxazepam), and Valium (Diazepam). Furthermore, she had taken Benadryl (Diphenhydramine) and Topamax (Toprimate), an anticonvulsant GABA agonist, which likely contributed to the sedative effect of chloral hydrate and the benzodiazepines.[84] Although the individual levels of any of the benzodiazepines in her system would not have been sufficient to cause death, their combination with a high dose of chloral hydrate led to her overdose. The autopsy report indicates that chloral hydrate was the "toxic/lethal" drug, but it is difficult to know if chloral hydrate ingestion would have killed her alone

I WOULD NOT TAKE IT! I AM NO DOCTOR, BUT MAKE SURE PLEASE, LIFE IS TOO PREACIOUS

Here is what I found.

"What other drugs will affect Ultram?

You may be more likely to have a seizure (convulsions) if you take Ultram while you are using certain other medicines. Do not take Ultram without telling your doctor if you also use any of the following medications:

* an MAO inhibitor such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), tranylcypromine (Parnate), phenelzine (Nardil), or selegiline (Eldepryl, Emsam); or
*

an antidepressant such as amitriptyline (Elavil), citalopram (Celexa), clomipramine (Anafranil), desipramine (Norpramin), escitalopram (Lexapro), fluoxetine (Prozac, Sarafem), fluvoxamine (Luvox), imipramine (Tofranil), nortriptyline (Pamelor); paroxetine (Paxil), or sertraline (Zoloft)."

You need to call your doctor's office. Let them talk to your doctor and let him know what you have discovered. If the pharmacy did not know, then you need to find a new pharmacy. I can ask my pharmacy anything and get an answer. They should be able to do the same. If I am not mistaken, it is bc it can cause bleeding. If you are healthy, it shouldn't be a problem unless you have thinning blood.

I would request to get a different pain killer - your doctor should be able to prescribe something that is compatible with everything else you are on. Good thing you read the insert.

I tend to be paranoid about that, so this is one of my favorite tools. You click on drug interactions and enter all the different medicines you are taking and at the end it will tell you if there is any serious interactions. Good Luck=0)

Ultram is for mild pain, like an ibuprofen - it won't get you high, and it won't hurt you if you mix it with Prozac.
