When I was little, I bit my fingernails. My mom told me that if I did not bite them for one month, she would buy me a hampster. Every night she did a little inspection and at the end of 30 days I had nice nails and a hampster. Good news is, many years later I still have nice nails, but alas the hampster has gone on to greener pastures.

Is laughing too loud a bad habit? I love laughter, and I try not to make fun of people for it because it is one of the free-est forms of self-expression. If you tried to control your laughter, it wouldn't be sincere.
Anyway, willpower. Be aware of the habit you want to change, then have the willpower to change it. Smoking, biting nails, etc.

you need to understand for yourself which habits you have are bad (not others telling you)....then bang your head with the reality of it being bad and yet you still "have it as habit".
Like those you listed...I don't see chewing nails as bad or laughing too loud.

Acknowledge that you have that bad habit, learn to recognize that you're actually doing it (enlist the help of friends), recognize the triggers that cause you to do it (boredom & nervousness are the big 2), and then find a replacement activity, such as drum your fingers against your leg, twiddle your thumbs or try a negative reinforcement, such as putting a rubber band on your wrist & snapping it.

I stopped biting my nails by wrapping duct tape around my fingers, and I don't care if I laugh to loud, people can deal with it. I've known quite a few face pickers who stopped around the time they stopped smoking meth and crack.

Number One.....Pull your finger out of it...that applies to many situations..
Number two: A nearly dead friend of mine told me when he wuz smart: The only way to stop doing something, is to STOP DOING IT!
Number three: Start up some good habits, like taking walks,
calling Mom when you don't just need money, sewing, reading...etc..as your good habits increase, your bad habits will fall of...sounds like it's just nervous energy anyway...you might grow out of it...just don't "eat & spew" ..this is all I ask...Now where's mah ten points?!

punch yourself in the face everytime you notice that you're repeating your bad habits. That'll get old pretty fast, and you'll be cured in no time. But....... if you don't wanna punch yourself in the face, then appoint somebody else to do it for you.
