My son is two years old. Ever since he was 4 months old he has had a snotty nose. When he develops a fever and I take him to the doctor they always ask how long he has had a snotty nose and I say his whole life and they look at me like I am crazy. He is currently taking Zyrtec daily and we use a humidifier every night in his bedroom. He has horrible breath (mostly from mouth breathing) and suffers from nosebleeds. Not to give too much information but his snot is thick and usually yellow or green and his boogers are like rubber cement. It is honestly embarrasing that his nose is so disgusting. Does anyone else have this problem and know what I can possibly do to clear this up? He finished an antibiotic for strep over the Thanksgiving break and it helped keep his nose clean for about three days and we were right back to the snot fountain again.

Take him to an allergist. I bet he has a sinus infection. They had to take my son's adnoids out and suck out all the nasty stuff from his sinus cavity. My pediatrician wouldn't do anything either. I finally got fed up with him and told him to refer me over to someone that would do something. He referred me over to an allergist. They had to have my son on an antibiotic for over a month. I could have killed the pediatrician.

My son has had the same problem except for the bloody noses. He is also taking Zyrtec everyday which does not really seem to be helping very much. I recently took him to a ENT (Ears Nose & Throat) doctor due to cronic ear infections caused by his drainage and so I hope now his problems will clear up.

Yes, I have with all of my kids, you just described them perfectly.Took them to an ENT & all have had tonsils & adnoids removed. My oldest has only been sick 3 times since his surgery 3 years ago, it worked wonders. My middle child, however, also has allergies which contributed to his problems, but he is still 100% better since his surgery. My daughter is only 18 mos, but has the same problems the boys did & will get the surgery when she's 2. I know how awful the snot & boogers is for everyone involved, I wish you luck & I would get him to an ENT as soon as you can.

Its highly possible he needs his tonsils and adenoids out. He definitely needs to see an ENT, so I'm glad you have an appointment. My daughter was similar - I wouldn't say she has a snotty nose, but she always seems stuffy, and has a nasaly sounding voice. The problem is basically her adenoids are so huge they are pretty much blocking off her nose. Same issue with her tonsils. Anyways, she's scheduled to have her tonsils and adenoids removed next month. Her ENT claims I will see a DRAMATIC improvement in her overall health. My daughter definiately gets chronic ear infections, is a big mouth breather, very restless at night, etc.

I hope this helps a little, good luck at your appt!

Get a referral to a Ear, Nose and Throat specialist. Sounds to me like he has some major sinus issues. It could be some sort of malformation of his sinus cavities causing a lack of muscle control or repetitive infections.

I had the same problem and my son has severe allergies so his doctor puts him on an allergy medicine and every few months we switch to a different one. For the last year it has been getting better and better!

Green mucus is usually associated with bacteria. Are you sure he has never had an ear infection? Take him to get his ears, sinuses, etc. checked.
