tv is 50 rear projection sony very late model is it worth fixing if not how do you get rid of these things

You don't throw it away...you replace the CONVERGENCE AMPS
That should fix the misalignment.

If it is a DLP type set maybe it needs a new lamp if the picture looks really dark and lacks contrast. Other than that it needs a tv technician's service so get an estimate. Repairs for newer sets usually cost less than a new TV (exception: Broken screen)

post a model number, many of the sony's have catastrophic crt failures and it is landfill material

Are there any mirrors and lenses to clean? Try that first.
