I'm an atheist. I truly honestly do not believe in God. No little tiny part of me even kind of thinks that there is a God. However, I hear people say that atheists believe in God but they are just being stubborn (something along those lines).

So do any Christians on here really truly think that ALL people believe in God to some extent?

Just N: Stephan Hawking was without brain power? Einstein... a true dunce? Maybe resorting to name calling isn't the best way to prove a point.

Creation: God isn't scary. I don't think any atheists are without God because they fear being punished. Hell, look in a prison and 99% of those guys believe in God becuase he will "save" them.

Char: Thank you for your respectful input.

Gefling: Thanks for the chuckle! It's true there is really little to no difference between those that believe in one God or none.

RachelRe: If people were "burned" by God than that suggests that they believe. This would make them agnostic or possibly anti-God. True atheists are just as sure there is not a God as you are sure that there is one.

Wow guys, there are so many great posts! Thanks to all the Christians that anwered respectfully to satiate my curiosity. I also have to agree with many of the fellow atheists. It does seem like people NEED something to believe in and perhaps that's why these theories go on. No thanks to Bible quoters. Have a lovely evening everyone!

Atheists simply believe in ONE LESS god than Christians do. It's not a big deal. When they understand why they don't believe in Zeus, Odin, Horus, Krishna, and the thousands of other gods, they will understand why atheists don't believe in theirs.

If you simply choose not to believe and that is that, then how are u not stubborn. Trust me, I know what stubborn is. Science and God are not at odds. SImply because a scientist or group of which say that the big bang theory or some other theory of existance is right, doesnt make it so. We wont have all the proof of how the universe was formed, we never will on Earth. If we did and we knew God formed it, we would all be Christians without any doubt. But you have to have faith. You may think this is stupid, irrational, whatever, it doesnt matter. You still have to make a choice. Either way you have to have faith. Was the world created or was it by chance?

I think there's no such thing as true atheism; everyone believes in something, even if it isn't an all powerful God. But I don't think all atheists are stubborn; before I became a Christian, I just didn't see a need for God. Some are also afraid of the unknown, or want full control over what will happen in their future.

No, I believe that many many people don't believe in God. To some extent I would call them stubborn, but hey, atheists are still humans like everyone else, and I feel bad when they say that Christians are stubborn and are ignorant and mock them, I'm really sorry for that, I really am. Of course I don't believe that atheists are horrible people, but I just believe that they're lost. That's all you guys are. And I still respect all of you.

To answer your first question, No, I don't think that just because a person doesn't believe in God means that they are 'stubborn'. I think that they just never had the opportunity to meet Jesus and once they did, they'd change their minds.

I think it also has a lot to do with a person's background. Whether their parents taught them about God or not.

As for your last question, no, I don't think EVERYONE believes in God to an extent. Some just absolutely don't. I've seen so many reasons in my life to believe that He's here with me.

I serve a risen Savior, He's in the world today.
I know that He is living, whatever man may say.
I see His work around me, I hear His voice so clear,
and just the time I need Him, He's always near.
He lives! he Lives! Christ Jesus lives today. He walks with me & talks with me-Along life's narrow way.
He lives. he lives. Salvation to impart.
You ask me how I know He lives?
He lives within my heart.

Okay, you have the atheists, that look at all sides of it. The possibilities of God, the logic involved, and make a decision.

Christians are often brought into it by parents upon growing up and never venture further to explore more options.

Who are the stubborn ones?

Believing in something, or NOT believing in something does not make that belief (or NON belief) true.

Back in the 60's, there were quite a number of people who, while under the influence of LSD, decided that gravity didn't exist. Sadly, many were left as vegetables when they woke up in the ICU!

I am convinced that God and Jesus exists because I had an encounter with Jesus that totally turned my life around.

Understand, however, that I did NOT grow up in a "Christian" home. We were always taught that Jesus was a liar, possibly a lunatic, and definitely dead.

When someone offered to pray for me (I was in my mid 20's and going through a very serious crisis in my life), God actually answered, I "MET" Jesus (no, not physically, of course), and He turned my life around.

I blow it - in fact, I mess up lots. But my life will never be the same because when I had that encounter with Jesus, I didn't push it away or reject it, so He accepted me into His Forever Family, cleaned up my life, and gave me a new Life.

I don't know your history, why you believe God doesn't exist, but not believing doesn't change the facts.

For SOME people, they have to just accept it on "faith", trusting that God's told the Truth in His Word, the Bible.

For OTHERS (like myself), I have no trouble believing the Bible, because of what happened to me. MY trouble is not always living up to what God expects of me. But because I continue to believe His Word and take Him at His Word, He continues to pick me up and dust me off, so to speak. The Scripture says that "Abraham BELIEVED God, and that was counted to him for his righteousness". Likewise, even though I stumble, I still BELIEVE God, and that is what God is looking for. He promised that He would take care of the rest.

With so much evidence, all the things that have been created, there really is NO excuse not to believe in God. All atheists act as defense attorneys and try to give rebuttals to every single shred of evidence that they are presented with. But like God says, there is no excuse. You can't tell God at the Great White Throne Judgment that you didn't know. That there was no evidence. He will say, "I gave you ALL the evidence you would ever need through My creation. But you were too foolish to accept it."

No, I certainly do not think all people believe in God. In America, we have the right of freedom of religion. To believe or not to believe. I do feel that both sides should show more respect to each other regardless of their religious preferences.

I Have seen questions and answers on YA in the RS section that shock me to the bone. I have one strong belief that comes from the bible. "Judge not that you be not judged".

I get the same thing and I am an atheist. People just get upset plus we are challenging their faith. They want us to believe just like them so they can feel more validated. Plus, it's awful scarey for some people to think there is no big daddy in the sky to take care of them or help them. No devil to blame when things go wrong. I've had them tell me , it takes you more energy to not believe then it does to believe. Whatever that means. Remember, they are being stubborn. We have come to an educated conclusion. christians are clinging to "stubbornly" to ridiculous myths and miracle through faith - in my opinion. this is only my opinion.

That's meaningless, by extension you can say all Christians are stubborn and they don't believe in God because everyone has doubt.

More to the point, they believe God is real, whether or not you believe it, not that everyone believes in God to some extent.

*although* everyone is subject to magical and wishful thinking, what with human beings being imperfectly rational creatures. If that's what you mean.
