1. What is the minimum inlisted years for air force electrician.
-- Same as everyone else... four years minimum on active duty, with 4 years on inactive reserves (not working for the military but a small chance of getting called back to service in the event of a major emergency). You start with a higher rank and pay, however, if you sign on for 6 years active and 2 years inactive reserves instead.

2, If I am an electrician in the air force will this qualify me to start a electricians business after discharge?
No, but you could probably use your qualification to get a job as a basic electrician or to boost your status in an electrician degree. Furthermore, the air force has great programs for getting your education while in the service AND what this would give you is invaluable work experience to help you towards bigger jobs once you got out.

3. If I am shipped to germany or japan, will they teach me foriegn language?
Not if you don't need it... and 99.9% chance you won't. Most Germans and Japanese near bases speak english anyway. Trust me, you can get by.

4. Will they ship my car to me or ship one back to the states?(I buy on there)
They will return ship a car to you from Germany ONLY if you take one with you. In other words, take a crap car with you, buy a nice BMW, and have them ship the BMW back... sell the cruddy one over there. Japan you can have a car shipped, but you have to be able to meet their strict regulations.

5. What is salary for a electrician?
Same as for any other job in the military, it's dependent on rank. Here's the 07 pay scale:
http://www.militaryconnection.com/2007-pay-charts/basic-pay.asp
(this does not include food allowance, housing allowance, uniform allowance, or any other forms of special pay which all add to your monthly total)

6. I am in southern ohio. Will I be trained in Willmington posibly?
No. Wright Patterson (saw your update) is a Materiél Command base... there's not a basic or tech school that I'm aware of there.

7. Did you enjoy your service in the air force?
DID? Psh, I love every minute of it now.

8. Add anything else you might want to tell me.
Good choice on the Air Force part.

9. P.S. I am techinically considered to have asthma(my mom has it) but I never have symptoms. Can I stil join?(i really wnat to know this one)
If it hasn't been diagnosed by a doctor, you don't have it. There are no waivers so if you're not having symptoms and your doctor hasn't said you have it, then keep that under wraps.

10. College Money before and after enlistment(info on both)
none BEFORE. We have great tuition assistance programs if you want to get degrees/training while you're in. Also there's the montgomery GI bill. Remember, however, if you take an enlistment bonus then you forgo alot of MGI Bill rights...

11. Not that I know of, but I could be wrong. Check with your recruiter... it might earn you a bonus stripe coming in the door.

3. You can take lessons on your own, but the Air Force will not train you personally (they do however, give a bit more money to airmen who are proficient in a foreign language).
5. In the AF, salary is based on time in service and rank, not what your job is. They give a bit extra money to needed positions (intel, ground crew, etc), but not enough to really make a difference in your salary. Everyone knows what everyone else is making, basically.
6. There are no bases in Willmington, it's either Youngstown 910th (for reservists) or Wright Pat, but your Basic training will be at Lackland AFB and then your tech school will be wherever they send you (there are several bases that have tech school).
9. Asthma is a disqualifier. Don't mention it if you are serious about entering the Air Force. If you do mention it and the recruiter really likes you, they will tell you never to bring it up again, because that'll automatically get you kicked out.
10. The reservists GI Bill gives you 3,500 a semester, I'm not sure if the amount is different from active duty but I don't think it is. You're only eligible after you complete your initial training (e.g., you can't enlist and then ask for the money right away).
11. Eagle scout completion will earn you the starting rank of E-3 (Airman 1st Class), but remember to bring your documents to Basic.

1. 4 years enlisted minimum - no matter what job
2. Yes, but you will only be a part of Civil Engineering, so make sure you get a LOT of OJT (On-the-Job-Training) to qualify, and try to get your degree on the side to secure your expertise.
3. No, because you will be on a US base - but they will teach you the basics and you will learn from the locals and the long-timers
4. Yes to both
5. Salary in the USAF is the same, regardless if you were admin, electrician or a para-trooper. It goes by rank. An electrician on the outside usually makes the big bucks because its a high hazard job
6. Find out from your local recruiter which tech school electricians get sent to. Something tells me its Virginia for a few weeks
7. Yes
8. If you want a more secure spot, try joining the Academy and you will be an officer with a degree. Enlisted is fine, but you dont have the expertise as the college grads - you will just have the experience.
9. of course you can join. the Air Force is the cushiest branch out there.
10. GI Bill is still in effect.

Was in for 5 years as a Communications Computer Systems Control. Code is 3c2x1 - on the outside the pay would have started out ranging from $60-100k, but I actually hated it and changed my career field when I got out. Wish I went in as an officer now.

Have fun and good luck. Any questions, email me.

1/ all contracts are for 8 years. Most likely a minimum of 6 must be on AD due to training requirements.

2. No. the training provided gives you a good basis, but does NOT confer a degree.

3. No. only if the specific job you are filling requires it.

4. authorized personnel may ship one POV to Germany. not everyone is authorized to drive OCONUS however. Also, POVs are NOT authorized to be shipped to Japan due to emissions controls. But, you can buy one there and have it waiting for you Stateside.

5. base pay is contingent on paygrade and Time in service.

6. Nope. Wilmington College does not have ROTC. Something about being a Quaker School. Closest base is Wright Pat. Not sure what schools , if any, are there.

9. Asthma diagnosed past age 13 is a PDQ with no waivers authorized. If your medical records don't actually HAVE the A word, you do not technically have it.

10: TA pays 100% of tuition for up to 16 credits per year(does not cover books or other fees) while in plus the GI Bill is also available after 3 continuous years of service.

11. eagle scout gets you either E2 or E3 upon enlistment.

1. 2yrs
2. Pretty much anything bro, just start asking around back home or do research elsewhere.
3. No, not unless you take college classes or w/e, otherwise you learn as you go.
4. As long as it's street legal in the US yes.
5. In the AF it's the same as any other job. Outside the AF it depends, my Dad did electrician stuff but it was in a Nuclear Plant and Pfizer so he was making over $50 an hour and retired before he was 50. It really depends where you place yourself in life with what you got, what you learned.
6. Not a chance. Maybe if you get based in Wright-Patterson AFB you can go to college there but that's a long drive I imagine lol
7. Am I right now? Oh yeah you bet, deployed to the desert! lol It depends bro, it's very rough and sucks a lot but I wouldn't have it or make it any other way.
9. Yeah, as long as it's not on any records that they may find, and as long as you haven't told your recruiter and will NOT tell anyone about it including the Military Entry Processin Station.
10. Yeah before and after. You can do college bonds and whatnot before you join, and when you get in, the military will cover it. And after your enlist, with the GI Bill, you will be covered for many years after to take college courses, etc.

If you have any other questions, I'd be more than happy to answer as long as ya ask me ;)
