Doesn't it refer to death in Greek?

Thanatos is the typical Greek word for death.

I did a very in depth study on the word because it's the name of the fourth horseman of the Apocalypse and I needed an avenue for additional insight.

My conclusion is that there isn't any. It means death plain and simple, and it is the most frequently used word to convey the idea of death. It never, Never, NEVER means anything else.

It is NOT a term of endearment. The Japanese to not show affection in public, (except towards children) It is considered rude and distasteful. San is a term of respect, use in similar situations where we would use "sir." San also applies to females.
