I've been experiencing muscle twitching everywhere the last couple of months.

Already been to the dr and I don't have any other symptoms for nasty diseases like ALS or MS. Just benign twitches and my dr said they are very common - probably stress.

I've never heard anybody mention being a 'twitcher' so I'm curious - any others out there?

Someone asked a question on Yahoo about this yesterday - you can click on my avitar and look at my answers to find the question. I have had this happen from time to time. I have learned a few things about it. With me, it occurs when my sleep is disrupted or insufficient, or when I have an electrolyte imbalance from overuse of muscles, dehydration or loss of electrolytes from sweating.

Sleep problems are the most common cause in cases where a person is not an epileptic and does not have a known neurological disorder. In many cases the twitching is identical to twitching that occurs when a person is falling asleep, and it can occur because part of the brain is starting into a sleep cycle when you are otherwise awake.

The electrolyte/dehydration/muscle fatigue problem is entirely different. There is a threshold level for electrical charges in muscle neurons that cause them to fire (and contract muscles). The threshold becomes lower when muscles are fatigued, or when a person's electrolytes are out of balance. Magnesium, potassium can calcium are the electrolytes needed to be replaced. With a lower threshold, almost random electrical impulses cause the muscles to contract involuntarily. Stress and anxiety can also magnify this effect.

Yes, my eyelids twitch when I'm tired. I swear they move so much that other people notice it.
