I want to make spaghetti mixed with tomato slices, chopped parsley, onion, and maybe diced carrots. If I add croutons to the spaghetti, will it add flavor to it?

Thanks Christopher K. I didn't add the croutons, but I would definitely want to try it as a topping. Great advice.

Thanks Mim and Robert, too!

I'd leave out the croutons from your spaghetti......BUT, you might to try a small sample (like 3 bites WITH the croutons) so that you can see how it will turn out.....However, I seen some spaghetti casseroles that use Italian croutons and Parm cheese for the topping, added during the last 15 minutes of baking......but putting croutons in with another starch, is kinda like having potatoes and noodles with a steak.....Enjoy!!!

I think the croutons will get mushy. How about those crunchy fried onions things that come in a can. Those would hold up and add flavor and crunch.

Sometimes I add seasoned Italian bread crumbs to the sauce to thicken it or right at the end, before serving, I quickly mix in some parmesean cheese or cubed fresh mozzarella. But if you add either cheese, you must NOT cook it any further, take it immediately off the stove/burner and serve right away.

A whole carrot cooked in the sauce will sweeten the sauce and take out the acidity. Fish it out before serving or keep it in, your choice. It's an old French method of making tomato sauce delicate.

Probably not. Pasta is a starch so are croutons. If you are looking for texture in you dish try adding pine nuts.

No, you would ruin it. Don't add carrots either, that is such an american thing to do
