My brother lives in Utah, and I live in Minnesota. He's asked me to send him some home made herring. I'm trying to figure out how to ship it to him. Any ideas would be most appreciated. Thanks!

Get a couple of ice packs. You can find them at Target or Wal-wart for cheap. Get the small one in pouches. Seal the herring on a tupper. a round tupper will give you the best seal. Then the tupper and ice packs in a zip lock bag. Be sure to burp the zip lock. Then place into another zip lock and burp. Box in heavy cardboard box. You MUST send NEXT DAY AIR, either UPS or Federal Express. It will be expensive. 2 to 3 pounds. $50.00 dollars or more. Do not trust 2nd day air or ground. Beware of the weather, bad storm and snow may delay the box. Mark perishable.
Good luck and hope your brother appreciates you

You can buy special packaging that consists of a polystyrene (styrofoam I guess) box and a bag of special liquid. Freeze the bag for a few days, seal it into the box along with the herring, and it'll all keep cold for a couple of days. Enough time to send it via fedex or whatever. Have a browse on the internet and see if you can find some, or call your local courier company and see if they know where to find it.

there is stuff at petco or petsmart that is a variety with fruits and googd things that all those lizzies need! try dipping the crickets and mealworms in the juice of the canned peaches. if he doesnt eat that try the variety mix lizzy food. if that doesnt work that put a bowl of that mix food and lower down on the peaches a lil take a lil away every day and soon the only thing left to eat will be that mix food which has some fruit!if he just doesnt eat that then mix the peaches in with the mixed food.. if that doesnt work try tiny pieces of meat or chopped fruit like strawberries one of those gotta work!! wow that is one PICKY lizard!! lol --lulu--

Working in restaurant food service, I know that a lot of cold products we shipped putting them in styrofoam cases and then in a cardboard box that had dry ice in it. It seemed to work pretty well.

You can probably use dry ice, but if it's being shipped ground commom carrier at this time of year, it will probably need to be protected from freezing, not spoiling. Besides, can herring actually spoil?
