I can't imagine why you need to know the answer "ASAP" ("as soon as possible"); personally, I'd think it would be much more important to know how to spell "difference" correctly! Besides, it doesn't matter how fast you want or need the answer, because the question remains "open" for three days, and, for all you know, the "right" or "best" answer won't show up until the very last minute!

Regardless, the answer it depends on the food. If it is particularly "fatty", such as whole milk ice cream versus lower fat ice creams, then, yes, most people would be able to tell the difference, which is the reason most companies add ingredients to improve the flavor and texture of their low- or non-fat products. Likewise, replacing oil with water for canned tuna will result in a very different taste.

However, some products, such as most fruits and vegetables, are already so low in fat, that the removal of any additional fats won't make a substantial difference in their taste.

P.S. The next time you need to know something "ASAP", at least have the decency to explain why.

It depends on what you're talking about. But generally yes.

Don't get me wrong, low-fat stuff has come a long way in the last few years (compare modern low-fat mayonnaise to about 10 years ago when it was gritty and disgusting). But in low-fat versions of usually high-fat foods, the fat is replaced with something else, and that something else almost ALWAYS feels different, even if it doesn't taste different. And many people are unable to distinguish the concepts of taste from texture...see certain diet sodas...even if they TASTE the same the viscosity is far lower, so some people say "it tastes like crap." No...it FEELS like crap.

Some items are subtle enough that people might not be able to tell the difference, particularly if the item is used as an ingredient in something else. Low fat peanut butter, for example...if you know you're eating low-fat, you'll probably notice that it's sweeter and a little bit grittier (because the lack of fat is displaced by the sugars and proteins), but you probably wouldn't notice if you baked it into cookies.

Low-fat mayonnaise might not be noticeable on a sandwich. But it would DEFINITELY be noticeable in macaroni salad...depending on its placement in a sandwich it might behave more or less similarly to real mayonnaise...but in macaroni salad the higher water content will be absorbed more by the macaroni (especially after a few hours) and it will feel dry.

Anyhow, generally yes, but you might stumble across an occasional "no" situation.

Oh I can! The first thing that comes to mind, and I don't know WHY, is eggnog. I love eggnog. I tasted the "lite" eggnog and it was just GROSS! I also don't like diet soda. YUCK! I made oatmeal cookies with apple sauce instead of oil and they were okay, but the regular recipe is SO much better. I can't really taste the difference between the low fat mayo and the regular though. I guess it depends on the food really... and I HATE artificial sweeteners. I'd rather put natural sugar into my body than chemicals. Oh, but I digress....

Sure, can. If takes more generic. Not as full bodied as the regular fat. Fat gives more substance and taste to food.
Also weight for those who are concerned about it.

Yes you can taste the difference in some foods. I made some cookies using fat free cream cheese and they tasted like crap.

Yes when it comes to cream, you can taste the fat in the cream and on the non-fat. in soda, low fat has less sugar and sometimes taste bland.

Low fat is terrible. I can't imagine what you would be making that needs low fat. If the calorie content is too high, just eat less of it. I would rather eat less and enjoy the taste the pig out on crap.
