My 6-month old Weimeraner threw up a large rock this morning. And since then he's continued to throw up for about an hour or two. He pooped about 3 large normal poops. He ate some food, threw it all up, drank some water, threw that up, then he was throwing up yellow foamy bile. For the last 1/2 hour he's been laying quietly on his bed but is shaking on occassion. I made some white rice and chicken and he won't touch it. He's drank some small amounts of water. He just looks very sad right now. Any recommendations?

I've called just about every vet in the area and they are all in surgery right now. (at least 15 that I've gone through the phonebook) I have an appt at 2:30 PT which is in two hours. Thanks for your thoughts and I'll let you know how things turn out.

So the vet x-rayed Duke and found a 1.5" rock in his small intestines. They did surgery on him last night and he's doing well. I get to pick him up tomorrow. I guess I'll be digging out all of the rocks in my garden this weekend as I don't want to have to go through this again!

Please listen to me. You need to take him to the vet or an eemergency vet clinic right away. If your vet says he can't see him you need to go somewhere else. This is a very serious situation. From my experience this sounds like it could be an intestinal blockage. If he is not treated immediately he could die. I don't want to scare you but this is very serious. His is in alot of pain. And if he has a blockage every minute you wait part of his intestine could be dying. Please take him to the vet if you love him. He needs you. He depends on you. You are his caregiver. Please.

Stop feeding the dog for a 24hr period this gives his digestive track time to rest. Make sure he does drink water, you could also get some pedia lite from the drug store, and get a little syringe without a needle on it and give him some, generally they like this as it has an apple taste, and the reason he is shaking is because he is not feeling well, the yellow and foam is just that bile because there is nothing left to throw up. Gradually re-introduce some bland type of food to him and also mix in canned pumpkin without the spices this helps to bulk up his bowels, I would also suggest feed him in small amouts a few times a day, instead of all at once, also check his gums they should be a nice pink color. If his gums are dark get him to a vet and have him re-hydrated, hope this is of some help and he feels better. Good luck.

Yes.

CALL THE VET. NOW.

If he's already thrown up a rock, odds are he's eaten something else that he shouldn't have, and may have an intestinal obstruction.

Intestinal obstructions can quickly be fatal.

Call your vet, then take him in. If he is shaking, wrap him in a blanket and keep him warm to keep him from going into shock. Take him to the vet ASAP and yes, please do update us when you're back and let us know if Doggy is okay!

Take him to the Vet, now! Please, go immediately to your vet, if your vet isn't available, find one that is. I have had dogs for 15 years, this is serious.

I don't understand, why you haven't been already. Please post back on this question how he is doing.
