UK isn't what TV makes it out to be, i live here. If you're planning on moving to London then i suggest you re think your plans! Society is bad, taxes are ridiculous and there's no family fun it's all about the clubs and booze. I live here and desperately want to get out.

My family and I have lived in Middlesbrough for over 6 years. Our first home here we had 5 cars stolen in 6 months of living in one place. Next place we lived was fine until a bunch of chavs moved into the house behind us, and our door was set on fire. This house we are in now, we have lived for nearly 5 years, though I do not know why we have stuck here for so long. Probably because we have no other option. We have continuously had things thrown at our windows. In the last 4 days we have had 3 eggs and paint thrown on our windows and our car broken into. I would definitely say this poll is justified in saying Middlesbrough is the worst place to live. Living here really gets you down and the general everyday crap we receive day in day out is uncalled for. We cannot leave the house half of the time without getting hassle. And this is a family who keep themselves to themselves and dont cause trouble.

I'm totally and utterly in love with the British countryside which is the most beautiful and varied in the world and as long as I'm hiking in it I'm perfectly happy. The towns and cities however, apart from their few streets of old architecture are just clones of American shopping malls. By and large British people regardless of their ethnicity are apathetic, mainly interested in their appearance, shopping and sex, and often rude, violent or just unpleasant. Truly lousy schools without discipline or belief in the worth of education have produced a truly semi illiterate nation. The inefficiency and dysfunction of British institutions - the personal details of 25 million people have recently been mislaid by government departments; a health care system which despite having billions in investment has such dirty hospitals that thousands die each year of viruses caught in them. Litter, filth and graffiti
are found everywhere. The politicians lie and when found out never resign, and I'm afraid it all gets worse every year.

-The cold/wet/unpredictable weather is so unromantic, unlike what the authors and movie writers would have us believe.
-Cost of living, is among the worst in Europe. House prices have been rising above inflation for a few years.
-The lifestyle itself is not really worth the expense. Really good education is for the well-off and British children, according to research are among the worst performing(despite spending eons in preschool and starting early) and also the most depressed.
-A few parents are under the false impression that there are no paedophiles in Australia/New Zealand/Europe
-Taxes and congestion charges don't help either.
and as you ucan tell from some of the above statements, a few folks are angry and resentful of having to be nice to foreigners -and it might inter est you to know that to anyone who's ever lost a job, foreigners(i.e; anyone who isnt white) are the obvious target to get angry at.

I live in rural England and I don't miss living in the city at all.
But the cities are all expanding at such a rate, they are all beginning to look the same, with masses of traffic, poky Barrett houses and no peace above the number of people yelling for attention and no need/desire to achieve anything.
As a nation, our natural reourses have all been used or sold, and we are traditionally inept. Napoleon pegged us as a nation of shopkeepers which is becoming more true each day. However, he found out that our only real skill is at winning wars which gives us the real honour of picking up the tab afterwards. (Sell a bit more of ourselves then.)
I love the place, but it is spent.

It used to be a wonderful place to live until we started letting immigrants in by the million.
Now the islands are beginning to sink under the sheer weight of people!
