All moral decisions are choices...my choices come from within myself based on what seems right at the time. I would be foolish to construct a moral code that would not address every moment of my life. It is only in the moment that I "know" what is good and true and loving for that particular situation. "Circumstances alter cases," or so my great grandparents handed down to my family. Only the moment can dictate the perfect response. I am not an Atheist, but I am a human being. I have never been in a position that I wanted to "destroy" anyone else; if I were, then I would be pitiful to have to rely on a formal moral code laid out by someone else to restrain me. I find it a natural quality to respect others, and I would be loathe to follow anyone else's "orders." I am Sirius

Really, you would just go around killing people without the Bible to guide you? That is the saddest thing I have ever heard. Personally I don't kill people because I value life and try to respect others. I think maybe in addition to your Bible study you should try therapy. As for your question, my morals were taught to me by my parents. Did you ask the question because you are looking for a more reliable source than Jesus? Personally I think the guy got most things right, but you really should use your own judgement. Well maybe YOU shouldn't, I think it is a very good idea for you to keep listening to Jesus and please don't go on that killing spree.

You would kill half of America if the Bible hadn't said not too??? See stuff like that is why atheists suspect they may at heart be more moral than many theists. For me common sense, consequences, and the knowledge that to live in a decent world we all have to be willing to do our part to make it that way. Do I need a Bible to tell me I wouldn't enjoy life as a drug addicted crack whore? Or to feel empathy for my fellow beings? To know they love their families and children as I do mine so we should respect each others right to live in peace and security? We don't need religion to derive morality. When people fail to follow societal rules (frequently even though they were supposedly religious) we have secular laws and consequences as well.

Does morality come from any RATIONAL view of the universe or its modern scenario or from the sentiments a guy or woman feels? Can any state of a universe be in basic terms rationally favored over yet another or is it continuously a question of our emotions? Are all emotions the two valid, e.g. the sensation of a Nazi that Jews are vermin and the sensation of an earthly humanist believing human beings are equivalent? For that count, is morality innate or found out, a minimum of inspired via subculture? If the Nazis had gained might that had made Naziism any much less morally reprehensible than it somewhat is right this moment? If Jesus would not exist does that variety the character or the validity of any the innovations ascribed to him interior the Bible? If God exists what's the muse for being ethical if any immoral act will ultimately be rectified via God, e.g. the wronged guy or woman would be repayed in heaven (Jesus' favorite "Blessed are the vulnerable" speech)? Why might killing be immoral if all of us gets countless existence afterwards (in certainty you only helped your sufferer get to heaven quicker!)? What may be one's incentive to help the undesirable or depressing if heaven exists? Can a sturdy act finished out of shock of hell or the promise of heaven be seen to be ethical? Is Christian morality particularly solid and ethical? Is it ethical to teach the different cheek and grant no resistance to the evildoer? Is it ethical to by no ability bypass any judgement on every physique else? many human beings declare that there may be no technological information without morality, yet enable's opposite the question. Can there be morality without technological information? interior the absence of solid tips on the subject of the international how can one understand what to alter to realize a needed ethical result? as quickly as in the past medical doctors dealt with many ailments with concepts we now understand to be volatile out of honest perception they have been assisting. have been their movements ethical? might the movements of somebody doing those treatments right this moment be ethical? Is the refusal of blood transfusion Jehova's Witnesses for religious motives ethical interior the absence of empiric evidence in choose of their faith? Is refusal to settle for the validity present day advancements in technological information, e.g. Darwin's concept, ethical? i think of it somewhat is greater effective than sufficient.

If the only thing stopping you from killing other people is Jesus telling you not to, and presumably because you want to get in to heaven, then you're both incredibly immoral and selfish.
I'm agnostic, my morality is based on respect for other people, it's as simple as that.

At first, I thought you were really the guy you're mimicking. I thought he'd be smarter than to ask a question like that. I feel that he's full of beans and himself, but he seems to have a brain. I really like this question though, cause they'd be out murdering everyone if it weren't for their belief in God. That's pretty well what they imply when they ask such a question. Makes me glad that they do believe in God.
Edit: Oh, and I found my morals in a dumpster behind the 7-11. They seem to be doin' me fine.

I don't kill because I value human life. I'm a good person because I would hope others are good to me, and because I feel better about myself not being a jerk.
Morals are not specific to faith. In fact, I have more morals because I don't follow faith. I don't view women as inferior to men, nor do I view gays as sub-standard citizens.

I get mine at Morals R Us. They have a great sale after Christmas. Of course they are usually a bit shop worn, but what the heck. They are cheap.

I got them out of the "L.L.Bean" catalog. Half of America? That's the trouble with you religious folk, always with the half measures. If you want something done right you got to have secular folk involved. The founding Fathers really new their stuff keeping State and Church separate!
