Negativity always loses. Many revolutions have been won with less than 17% of the population - and we have 80% on our side on this.

The incrementation strategy works for many things in politics.
Just think of the on-going battles the gun control and anti hunting folks are working on. They want to take it piecemeal.
There are some good things for our side right now though. The CITIZENS are becoming more educated about the costs and lower standard of living that illegals (and for that matter too many legal) immigrants impose upon us.
The best thing we can do is to educate others about the costs and negative aspects of illegal immigration.
Higher crime rates.
Higher taxes.
Lower wages.
Lower educational opportunities.
Higher medical costs.
Higher commodity prices.
More pollution.
More noise.
Less open space.
Pressing 1 for English.
Etc.
The only positives are SLIGHTLY lower costs for some consumer items.....Unless you are an employer of illegals or in some other way taking advantage of illegals.
EDIT to Rick below me. A lot of what you say could help but the biggest mistake we could EVER make would be to grant ANY form of amnesty. It has never worked and will never work if controlling illegal entry is a goal. It will however be fraudulently utilized (as has every other amnesty) to give amnesty to millions who do not deserve it. Then EVERY single one will bring in untold numbers of relatives. The effect could be 60-80 million extra people from just one amnesty.
Several studies have also shown that if we do have an amnesty that taxpayers will subsidize every illegal family to the tune of over $20,000 every year!
As a law enforcement officer I can tell you that no criminal in the world would respect us if we granted amnesty.

"in such a way that over time at some point you realize that you are willing to accept things at some point that you would never have ever dream of acquiescing to."
Are you talking about the nation's change of heart that we experienced when we freed the slaves, gave black people and women rights???? Is this the type of "evil incrementalism" you are talking about. I have a feeling that a couple of generations from our childre will be apologizing to all decendents of immigrants for the racist actions and idiology that idiots like you are promoting today. You are racist pig!!!! Wether you want to admit it or not!!!

This is why I wish everybody would try to reach a compromise. If we could, we might be able to solve the problem. Here is my idea of the compromise.
1. Close the borders. Use a fence, armed guards, pit bulls, whatever it takes.
2. Provide a limited amnesty for those already here. Providing they have no criminal record, have not been leaching off the government, and are willing to pay at least a portion of their back taxes, grant them a work visa.
3. No "path to citizenship." Let those who have received amnesty go to the back of the line, and give them an opportunity to work to earn a Green Card at some time in the future, once they've proven themselves, and learned English.
4. Require that all of the amnestied immigrants be paid no less than the minimum wage, and that taxes be withheld, just like the rest of us. If possible, go after employers who have, in the past, paid less than the legal minimum, while allowing for room and board provided in lieu of wages.
5. Go after the employers who, once this is implemented, continue to hire illegals. Stiff fines, and possibly jail sentences, will solve the problem.
6. Make it a little easier for those who want to work, to come here legally. We do need these workers, after all.
7. Amend the Constitution so that those born of illegals in this country are no longer granted citizenship. This entire process is a gross misinterpretation of the intent of the 14th Amendment, which was tp grant citizenship to the former slaves.
8. Find the leaches, criminals, and other "bad" illegals, and deport them on the first bus. If they return, life imprisonment!
I think something like this would solve the problem, rather than both sides trying to get everything they want, and nothing getting done.

#1 it's not ANY mexican (there are other countries with citizens here illegally). #2 And this is not directed to you personally, however so many people are complaining about the "advantages" taken from them by illegals. Please pay attention to your kids, go to school. Simply because you don't get off your a** to make something of yourself doesn't mean you can sit and b**ch about what's not handed to you. I think it's funny. Many "illegal" immigrants see the opportunity to go to school, gain skills and knowledge that many american's won't take advantage of.

I don't believe they will win. The American people are fed up. I have heard so many people talk about war. That is how serious the anti-illegals are. We shouldn't have to support all the illegal aliens, but our government loves that cheap labor. I know sometimes it feels like we aren't getting anywhere, but don't give up. We WILL win.
