Well, he's not your teacher anymore is he?
So what's the problem?
Your best bet is to invite him to Starbucks or something *with* your boyfriend...to get that aspect of it out of the way. Just e-mail him and say.."Hey, I'd like to stay in touch...etc..etc..."
Then, if he replies, keep talking online until you guys are *very* comfortable with each other. After that, ask him for a drink at Starbucks. First time, take your boyfriend...it's actually proper. But the next few times, you can just chat with him alone. :P Have fun. I would kill to do this with one teacher I loved...but he's married, lol. ^^

You may not understand it, but your son is craving structure and balance in his life. If you are positive his Mother is going to have a negative response to the idea, consider a mediator. It's not in a courtroom, more causal surroundings. Whatever you do, Do Not make comments such as he is happier with you, he doesn't want to return to her when he is visiting you, etc. Obviously that will certainly feel as though you are insulting her as a Mother and make it more difficult for her to decide what is best for your son. Also make sure you have a reference for scheduled visits for your son to see his Mom too. Good Luck P.S. I wish my ex husband would care about our children even half as much as you do!

Don't, in a student (ex or current)/teacher situation you shouldn't hang out. I'm reading your message and it still sounds wrong so I have NO idea how you would ask him without it sounding like you want him.
Its not a good idea, even just going out as mates.

well i think its kinda frowned upon socially, because lets say you guys went out to a bar (not that you would or anything im just giving an example) and he got drunk and did some unteacherly things....he could get into big trouble and even lose his job.
so yeah i think teachers may be a little iffy on hanging out but if you want to give it a try go ahead, just like ask him if he wants to go with you to get something (like a drink or lunch or whatever i dunno lol)

What if you say to him - how about as friends we have lunch or coffee ? I really like having a friend that I can have intelligent conversations with what do you think ?
See what happens. Hope this helped. Take care girl.

It's not appropriate to hang out with a teacher socially. I bet he wouldn't feel comfortable about it either. Even if it is totally innocent, it's just frowned upon.
