Maybe three minutes ago there was a question that asked 'how one could rid the world of religions' and many of the answers suggested that those of religion are uneducated.

WHAT??????

Do you think that we, religious people, sit in a corner all day and read from our Bibles, and Korans. I have spent my whole life hearing about the evolution theory and the big bang as it is required by the education system that I understand it aswell as understand why others my think that it is probable. We, religious people, live in this world just like you do and draw from it our own conclusions as to whether or not being religious is worth our time. Just because we choose that it is, does that makes us uneducated? What more can anyone draw to our attention to increase our awareness that has not already been thrown in our face, especially to those of this generation who live in an atheist society.

The statistics show a negative correlation between educational level and religion. This doesn't mean religious people are dumb, or all religious people are uneducated...

I believe the quote that you are referring to is "Education and Time' from the other post......
It has been proven that, the more we know, the less we need a biblical explaination.....I.E. gravity, the rotation of the planets around the sun, the earth being round and not flat (though Sherri Shephard is still unsure about this one). The church's belief system has caused scientists of the past to be excommunicated and worse for proving that we are not the center of the universe and that what we once believed can now be porven to be otherwise.....I think the point from earlier was that, with the expansion of science and technology, we will be able to understand things more clearly and be less likely to fill in everything with a "God did it" mindset...or "The Bible says so" understanding. I am sure you are smart....that doesn't mean that you are right, but no one thinks you aren't educated.......edit: I don't at least.

great question... it is sad when so many people can claim to be better than another and yet they are so close minded and stereotype all.

Faith is what it is... Belief is what it is...
Understanding other religions is also what it is...

so instead of blasting someone (many of the answers here and wherever religious questions are posted) why not accept that my belief is MY belief and I am educated, as well as accepting of anyone's belief system... I may not agree with it, but i will never say you are uneducated BASED on religious belief.
Education is more than just subjects or books... it is based on experience, hence why i BELIEVE that going to a classroom based college will be best for my children than the cop-out style of online universities... debate and interaction are necessary for people to learn more than just from a book.

I took many philosophy and religion courses in college. I do not agree with the beliefs of many other religions but i KNOW about them - so am I educated in your opinion? does it matter?

I know a few very educated (and when I say educated, I am not just talking about having a degree in something) religious people. They are fully aware of the history of their religion, the actual beliefs of their religion, and what other's religions, as well as what science says. I reiterate that this is VERY FEW people. Actually, I only know one person like this.

Anyway, from my own observation, most people have no idea the history of their religion, what other religions believe, as well as what science says. They were raised to believe that their religion is the way things are, no questions asked.

Funny, I wonder how people can be taught evolution then genetics and still think Darwin is right. The more we learn about the genome the more bizarre the explanations become as to why monkeys have 24 chromosome pairs while we have only 23 and moths have 600. I am quite certain that if Darwin knew then what we know now he wouldn't have suggested such an absurd theory.

Actually one of the things I've learned from YA is that atheists can be just as uneducated misguided and illogical as any theist.

I realize now that the atheists I was familiar with are not representative of all atheists. There is an entire category of atheists who are just as irrational as any theist.

I'm literally stunned every day by people here claiming to be atheists. The theists I personally know would grind up and spit out half of the so called atheists here. They would have a good portion of then converted within an hour.

I've come to the conclusion that the majority of disagreements and fighting here is not 'atheist v. theist' it's 'idiot v. idiot'.

That in no way exonerates many of the theists here. There are a couple of theists in this very thread who are off on completely irrational & illogical tirades against evolution.

The fact that a shockingly high number of Religious people think that Evolution is a lie shows that a large portion of Religious people are under-educated.

I don't say that, I agree, many will say that Christianity is boring,

No one who is a Christian will ever say that it is boring.
How do you know? Have you tried it? There are millions of Christians who have a lot of fun being Christian. We just do it with a lot less sin, and therefore, a lot less problems. Maybe it's only your problems that keep you from getting bored.
What do you think we do all day, sit around fireplaces and read Bibles? We ski, swim, play sports, read, have friends and problems like anybody else. Christianity is not boring. It is an adventure.

And as far as The Debate between Evolution Vs Creation ? This is really not a debate over Scientific evidence as a Non-believer would have you to believe, but about Philosophy,
There are a Large and growing number of FORMER Atheist Evolutionary Scientist that have come over to Creationism, But you won't hear about them in the mainstream media as the Media is very Biased against that , Mostly because they are all secular and to do that would allow holes to be poked in their Philosophy and Science, so you won't see it.

But they do exist.

Historically and presently religions have and are known to prevent an awful lot of technological and Medical progress. So although you may not be uneducated, religion does appear to be against higher learning in general.
