Hello, I have family in Puerto Rico & I go there alot. I also have a 2 year old son that gets bit alot. I was wondering if dengue fever is curable?? I mean I know its a virus & viruses live in us forever right? But I mean is it permanent like HIV or is it like the flu virus where it goes away?? Also Do they the have Dengue Hemorrhagic fever strain in PR?? If so, is this curable or treatable also? & if it is treatable: again I mean does it go away completely? Thank you. I will choose 10 points.

Because Dengue hemorrhagic fever is caused by a virus for which there is no known cure or vaccine, the only treatment is to treat the symptoms.

With early and aggressive care, most patients recover from dengue hemorrhagic fever.

It is possible to get Dengue in Puerto Rico. But it is also possible to get in certain areas of the US too.... Use a good repellent while in PR

There's a high probability of recovery. Two of my cousins who live in the Philippines got dengue once and they stayed in the hospital for a while. They eventually got out safe and healthy.

The mainstay of treatment is supportive therapy. The patient is encouraged to keep up oral intake, especially of oral fluids. If the patient is unable to maintain oral intake, supplementation with intravenous fluids may be necessary to prevent dehydration and significant hemoconcentration. A platelet transfusion is rarely indicated if the platelet level drops significantly or if there is significant bleeding. Please see the webpages for more details on Dengue fever.
