You did ok. But if you run after a deer for a shot you will generally just scare them more. Next time just stop, leave the motor running to cover your noise some, slowly stalk off to the side and wait a bit. You see deer will run a short distance and turn around to check their back trail. If you can get into the right place quietly you may get a good shot.
If you are after meat don’t wait for a huge buck take a spike or fork horn buck or an old doe.

As for the other wackos who put you down and advised shooting the fawn all I can say to them is this; Put down the crack pipe and leave people alone! If you have nothing better to do than bug the hell out of people and advise them to kill a fawn then don’t answer! Unless the snow gets too deep the fawn will survive. I watched a doe with twin fawns survive 30 below winter and they made it because there was only a couple of feet of snow.
Yes the fawn may not survive the winter but then again it just might, why blast the little thing and get maybe 15 lbs of meat?

I think you will become a good hunter in time.

You don't always see that 10 point buck the first season out. I mostly saw does for my first few years, but to quote my dad from nearly 40 years ago, "Leave those does alone and he'll come looking for them later." You did the right thing waiting, however, I would not have "chased" the other two at all. The best thing to have done was stop and find a good place to watch the trail or field from. Later, if you are looking for meat then shoot an old doe with no yearlings or at least mature yearlings.

Good Hunting!

You did the right thing. You don't want to shoot the baby or his mama, whichever that might have been, though baby'd probably do OK now that it's about 8 months old, and if you do shoot a "wet" doe, it isn't something to lose a lot of sleep over.
When my youngest started hunting, he threatened to take a paintball gun, we ran into the same little spikes so often. He wound up "shooting" them with tossed M&M's when his frustration level got too great.

He ought to teach previous any lifelike doubt which you have been in certainty looking. there is obviously lifelike doubt right here. i might get representation and combat returned. The officer ought to have standard that he could no longer get a conviction, and only wrote a value tag hoping which you may chew the bullet. Have your lawyer seek for suggestion from the prosecutor and notice in case you will get the fees dropped. The police hate dropping time and funds in a case it somewhat is almost impossible to win. If that would not artwork... i would not take any of it. combat it in courtroom, the fees could desire to be dropped. in case you so choose you could press quotes against the warden, even nevertheless you're no longer likely to get everywhere.

You did a good job by waiting. I dont know how long your season is up there but i woulden't fill my tag on a doe till near the end of the season.

I'd say you didn't shoot the deer. You will thank yourself later if you wait and make your first deer a nice sized buck instead of a little doe or something.

If you would have shot the mother then I'd say you might as well shoot the gilp because it probably wouldn't make it through the winter anyway. Since you didn't, it might survive but doubtful if it was that young. Regardless, if you just want meat shooting the younger ones are fine, as long as it's legal of course.
