While abbreviating in a text message is essential, why do so many people continue to abbreviate in other forms of communication such as e-mails, notes, or even speech? Also, do you think too many abbreviations can distract the reader and confuse the message?

its because its shorter to do abbreviations and its faster. some ppl use the words and abbreviations. oh well.

It drives me nuts to come in here and read questions in "textese". I think it is totally ruining the importance of good spelling and grammar. Those things are so essential to getting into college and obtaining a career, and so many people just can't see that. Its sad really.

OH MY GOD... I freaking hate it when grown adults use abbreviations in emails as though they are texting a cell!!!! Plus ladies... its not cute anymore if you are over 13 years of age and you still write.. skl, dun, frnd... in an email, you just seem uneducated and ignorant.
