Yes.
People (religious and non-religious alike) need to realize that prayer is about two-way communication.
God is not Santa listening to your wishlist.
God is not a magic Genie granting you three wishes.
Prayer is a means of worship, confession, supplication, introspection, reflection, and - above all - meditation on God's plan and one's role in that plan.
If prayer is about the one doing the praying then ,no, it's not going to work. If prayer is about God then, yes, it is incredibly effective.

Since I have come back to the Lord, the things I have done I am not proud of, but He has been answering my prayer & continues to do so! Thank the Almighty God for His wonderful Works are more then we could ever comprehend! Faith comes by hearing & hearing by the Word of God.

Yes , all the time , but sometimes the answer is "no" and sometimes it's "wait" . Prayer is getting myself right with God , it's for me - God knows what I'm wanting and wishing , anyway , I use prayer to clear my mind .

Getting off your butt is more useful than prayer.
"Pray, v. To ask that the laws of the universe be annulled in behalf of a single petitioner confessedly unworthy."

This question misunderstands the purpose of prayer. The sum and substance of prayer is not a parallel of a genie in a bottle waiting to answer your wish. The bible makes it abundantly clear that the greatest purpose of prayer is to commune with God.

No, never. Not as direct communication with other forces.
Psychologically, prayer can work when you're trying to solve a problem as a means of meditation. Its helps to focus the mind on a specific task and therefore enable you to work through the issue yourself. Theres no need to direct the prayer is a certain direction though.
If its consolation you require, the same rule applies because you;re able to focus on the issue you're facing and work through it in your own mind.

Prayer is not a tool like a spanner or a bottle openner. In prayer one talks to a Father and Creator, God, who may or may not grant what we ask but always hears and answers our prayer.

Yes, many times my prayers have been answered, sometimes the answer is no, and I am thankful for those wise answers most.
