I care so much about him and like him alot and do not want to hurt his feelings but at the same time I do not know what will happen if I give in to his request. I just broke up 3 months ago with my girl friend.

You have to go by what you want. You don't know what will happen either way, so you're going to be taking a risk both ways and you may as well do what you want to do and end it now.
Just tell him straight out. "I'm really sorry, but I'm just not interested in that."
If you've known him for that long, he'll likely accept it.
He probably already knows you're not interested, but finds it hard to accept it.
If you just let him know, he'll stop kidding himself and it would be easier for both of you.
Well, that's presuming you're not interested?
If you are, then that's a different story.
Do what you think is best for you, because you have to make these decisions in life, and if you make the wrong decision so as not to hurt him, you will both regret it - it will backfire.

You are on the rebound from your previous relationship. If he knows you have just broken up, he knows this too. If you both have an understanding that your relationship might not last, and you feel compelled to return the affection, then go for it.
Who knows, you may end up marrying him!
