The trolls are going to love that one, aren't they?

My wife works with the severely retarded. (I'm not supposed to use that word, but I think she would get even madder if I said severely special.) I have often wondered what prevision God has for them. What Jesus did was just cast the devil out of them, but is this modern age we have become too smart to believe in devils, so casting them out has become more difficult.

What also about children who die before they are able to make a decision? First Cor 7:14 says, "For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy." This is taken to mean that the children of a believing parent are saved until the age when they can make their own decision, but even that looks to me like speculation. Even if so, what of the children of unbelievers?

I have wondered about dogs and cats, but they do not have the sin of Adam passed down in their blood.

God always has provision for every problem. Our God is a God of love. For every problem, He brings promise and provision, always, every time, if we will only hear Him and do as He commands us to do.
Just like a small baby cant be held accountible to God , as they are not yet campable of making a mature decision to serve Jesus as Lord, it is the same with ppl that are mentally retarded, and incampable of making the choice to follow Jesus. Some can make that decision with simple childlike Faith and it is awesome. But, some are too profoundly retarded to be able to make a choice. God will honor and protect them, bless and save them, as he would a baby not able to yet make the choice. Now today its like a horrible thing to say the word retarded, and it should not be. It just means they are slow to learn. So does challenged sound better? WOrds are words. The fact is anyone that is not capable of making a choice for Jesus, will not be held accountible when they cant make that choice. God has them covered already with His wings of love. Same with babies that die before they grow up. all the same. Its not just the children of a blieving parent that is saved. All children are saved until the age of accountiblity, about age 13, just as the jews recognize. When one is a mature adult, they must make their own choice, their parents cant make it for them. But, God will hold our children even closer to Him when we pray for them and place them in His hands. But in the end, its still personal choice. Noone can try to plead ignorance, if they havent tried to learn.
Same with one who prays for their unbelieving mate. YEs, God will hold on to them and not easily let them go, but in the end, its still choice that we each have to make for ourselves, if we are capable. Many children of non believers are saved, as they made that choice to follow the Lord. Children of believers are often still lost, as they wont choose faith for themselves. WE cant enter heaven on someone elses faith.
NOPE. God is a just God and a fair God. I have worked with older ppl and disabled ppl, and they are very special ppl and God loves them and sees their quality of life as valued, whether ppl see it or not. They hurt and they laugh just like everyone else. Who are we to say they have a less valued life just cuz they cant do all we can do. I wonder how many of us can simply love as they do, and expect so little back.
God bless you for the question. great one, again....
Thanks.

People are held accountable for their own belief in God when and if they are able to comprehend such subjects and make a decision. Therefore whether a person is a child of believer or unbelievers, he or she will be held accountable when matured to a point where one can accept or reject God. The same with a mentally impaired person. If that person cannot understand such a concept, God is not going to judge them for that. A child is not saved just because his or her parents are believers. Jesus did not cast the devil out of all mentally impaired individuals. There may have been such a case in the Bible (sorry, I can't recall off the top of my head) but that certainly does not mean that all mentally impaired people are demonized.

When sin entered the world, there was a cursed placed upon the earth and everything within it, including animals.
All children, before they reach the age of accountability, are saved. God says that "he that knows to do good and does it not, to him it is sin." You are not held accountable for what you do not know. Children hold a very special place in the heart of God...all children, not just those of believers. In fact, Jesus said, "Suffer the little children to come unto me and in no wise cast them out, for of such is the Kingdom of Heaven." He also said, "Unless you humble yourselves like this little child, you will in no wise enter the Kingdom of Heaven."
I agree that all sickness and disease, including mental illness, is a result of the curse. It is satan and not God, that causes these terrible things to happen. I believe that life can only found in the arms of God and I think that if a child dies at a young age, he is much happier than those left upon this earth. I also agree that demonic possession is also what is wrong with some of those that have been labeled "mentally ill". I do not, however, believe that this is possible in children under the age of accountability.

No God doesnt. Im muslim and In Islam the mentally retarded are offered heaven right away, just as babies go to heaven and are not judged or questioned, because they cant and dont know any better. Just because there are mentally retarded people, doesnt mean they deserve it or God is angry with them. It may be a warning and too show what he is capable off. But life cant be all rainbows and sunshine, or it would be too easy. and God makes things hard for people and puts sin in the world to see who will be strong enough in avoiding them and who will turn to him. The ones who do will have greater rewards.

Most theology on this matter is speculation, but God only judges those people who are capable of making an informed decision. From a Catholic perspective (I'm not actually Catholic, but I like some of their ways of looking at things) God judges people based on what they did with the capacities He gave them. So only a person who understood and freely rejected God would go to hell. We don't know if the mentally retarded, children, and others (I would include those who just haven't heard too) go to heaven or to some other place of happiness. But God would not condem them to hell.

Your right in many areas . Society believes in drugs ,sedate everyone for everything ,why repent of sin because of guilt ,take a Valium or two. Why teach your child self control ,just call him hyperactive and drug em.
All children are like a blank CD at birth ,everything they become is recorded on them ,sinful parents burn sinful Cd's . ergo they are taught to be just as vile as the parents , they will not be received in heaven. Would a child raised as a temple prostitute have any communion with God?

Only to answer a part of the question. If children are saved through their parents because they cannot choose to make decisions about what they believe, then how can they be unbelievers?

This is a very thorny problem, and scripture doesn't specifically deal with it. YHVH is as generous as He can be within the limitations of being perfectly righteous. (He can't call Sin good) Salvation is a marriage contract, where the "bride" takes His name and follows His rules. If a person does not know enough to understand the question? I don't see any way He can let them into Eternal life. My best guess is that they will not be resurrected either with the righteous, or 1000 years later with the wicked. Whatever YHVH chooses to do, we will all agree that it is the best possible solution to a difficult problem!

I believe that only those who knowingly reject God and deliberately remains dead in their sins goes to hell.
Because of Jesus sacrifice on the cross sin is no longer the issue which separates us from God it is now spiritual death which does.
So if someone is incapable of rejecting God in order to live a sinful life because they cannot make that conscious decision then they are innocent of any wrong doing.
Just like if a baby dies before he or she is born they will automatically go to heaven because they are innocent of any wrongdoing and this goes for children before the age of accountability or anyone who has never heard the word of God.
Jesus destroyed sin and in the process defeated Satan so we live by victory not for it and every single person whose found innocent will go to heaven and only those who have decided to reject salvation will go to hell.
If a mentally handicapped person is incapable of rejecting Christ then they are innocent.

I would like to add that I think a person is sinning only when they're consciously aware of it and knowingly decides to do it.
Sin is what occurs after we are made aware of it and have decided to embrace it and reject God's salvation.
If we are unaware of what sin is for whatever reason and have never heard the word of God then we are innocent and our sins we have unknowingly committed have already been forgiven.
It's only after we've been made aware of them and salvation has been offered to us that the sin issue becomes relevant.

There are also primitive tribes, in this day and age, that can go their entire lives without ever having seen a missionary, or having never heard of anyone called Jesus.

These people typically worship snakes or crocodiles, whatever powerful animal inhabits their locale.

I wonder what god does for those poor schmucks.
