The History of the Candy Cane

Candy Canes were originally white and handed out by a Sunday school teacher to his students during a lesson one Sunday. The only way the Sunday school teacher could hand out treats was with a lesson about it. The crook of the cane represents the Shepherds Staff and when the cane is turned upside down it is to represent the J for Jesus. I just found this out this year during a radio show. The stripes were introduced much later in years.

There was a time at the start of the Xmas tree craze when decorations were simple and home made. Many people knew the recipe for making cane candy and these did not flouish until someone bent some to be hung on the tree. Candy makers didn't start producing great quantities until after WWII.

First off, I think your roommate is really cool.
Second off, I think they're in the shape of canes so we can hang them from wine glasses and make pretty decorations. :)
