I have a 2005 GMC Sierra. My ABS light has been on for several days. I took it to the dealer and they said it will be $150 just to diagnose the problem, thats just to figure out the problem thats not to fix it. On top of that I will need to pay to fix it (weather its big or small). Still, I dont want to pay this much. I have checked the brake fluid level of the master cylinder, and thats ok. Next I am going to check the four sensors. I was wondering other than checking the sensors what else can I look for? Is there some sort of diagnostic tool I can buy to help figure this out and do it myself? What else can I check.??? By the way my brakes feel fine, I just want the light off! Thanks

You can buy a scanner for around four thousand dollars. You have to have some type of scanner to see what is irritating the ABS module. This will tell you which circuit is coming up as faulty. If you can't read the codes, yes get under there and see if you can see any damage to the wiring to the wheel speed sensors. If you think that's expensive just wait until you see if you need a new sensor or harness.

ex gm tech here...common problem(once a recall) abs module mounted on driverside frame rail. probably expensive. i did most under warranty, did not know price. most dealers charge for 1 hour labor to get you a code.(75- 100$$) i would check deler for recall. regular brake will operate fine. yourcall. good luck."hurchelfox@yahoo.com

alot of times the ebcm needs to be regrounded or it sets false trouble codes. also there is no sensor on the rear dif, dodge uses that, gm uses on on the t-case or trans
