Divorce is utilized to stop domestic murder. In the end Jesus relented and figured that divorce was better off than black eyes and broken bones.
Actually Primoa is right, Adultery is the only good reason to divorce. And beaten women should give their men a pass, as the OT depicts.
This issue is another example of Christians not really getting their morality from the bible or God.
Luckily we live in a society that has determined that there are good reasons for divorce, and that people do make mistakes in deciding to get married. Some people don't match after time has passed, and life has changed either of them. If a man turns out to be an aggressive violent person after marriage takes place, we understand that the woman should be able to get out and carry on with life. The bible and God doesn't allow for this, in fact it tends to encourage it by stipulating rules on where to beat your woman.
Thank goodness our morality comes from society.

Look, the Pope is just a man that is representing Rome and the Catholic church....admirable man, but remember he is a man.
Look it up in the Bible if you want to know. Or do you not own one? Jesus said that a man could divorce his wife over adultery and vice versa. Also, if a woman is being abused she can divorce.
Regan, Kennedy, and Giuliani are MORTAL MEN! They sin and if they divorce for other reasons than stated above that is between them and GOD....not the POPE.

Y'know, just when I think your "European Pope" questions can't get any more laughable ... you prove me wrong.
I do wish you'd explain the "european" thing, though. I'm truly curious about that. I have e-mail enabled, if you happen to have a moment to elaborate on it one of these days.
As for Kennedy and Giuliani, they haven't been what you'd call faithful to Catholic doctrine -- picking and choosing what they accept and disregarding the rest. I have no idea how they reconcile that on a personal basis. But as you probably know, the Church has never sanctioned divorce and it's beastly difficult to get a declaration of nullity. As it should be, if marriage is considered a sacrament -- and it is. That said, there has been a landslide of annulment petitions in the U.S. for several decades owing to a culture that thinks divorce is okay. There is a fee for annulments just as attorneys charge a fee for a divorce (for which no one ever bats an eye, but somehow the Church asking for a fee gets their backs up). No one is ever denied having their petition heard due to inability to pay, though, which one can't say for divorce attorneys. Fee or no fee, annulment isn't a rubber-stamp affair.

Jesus did not establish that but spoke against it and unfortunately divorce is very popular and not seen as a sin at all by some Catholics and people of other religions alike. By the way, Kennedy and Giuliani are NOT faithful Catholics! They are both PRO-ABORTION and anybody who is pro-abortion are not faithful to the Catholic Church. And no, I will not call it "pro-choice" because nobody has a choice or a right to KILL.
Anthony B: Do you believe in the Trinity? The word Trinity is never seen in the Bible. Do you believe in the Bible? THE WORD "BIBLE" NEVER SEEN IN THE BIBLE! That logic is very corrupt. No offense, but do your research. God Bless.

He did not tell anyone to charge for a divorce and Jesus allowed divorce for one reason marital infedelity and then he only allowed it because our hearts were hard,he does not like divorce and does not condone it he would prefer that people ask him who they are to marry so they will not make a horrible mistake and be miserable by their own choices, and then he wants people to stick with their marriages even if its their own choice of a mate.

divorce is not ok in god's eyes, unless one in the marriage commits adultry. but we are only people, and we sin, and we fall out of love because we have trouble making relationships work, thats why it's important not to jump into a marriage, we need to be sure that this is the person that we want to spend the rest of our lives with, but god forgives us for making stupid decisions. thats the great thing about being a saved christian. so far i have been with my husbsnd for 9 years and we are happy and i don't ever see a divorce in our future but you never know what can happen up the road, i just pray that god gives me strength and happiness and guides us , as to keep our marriage going strong for the rest of our lives.

Think for yourself. If you want a divorce, get one. Don't worry about what Jesus (dead for 2000 years) might have said about it. Don't worry about what a bunch of rich old men in the Vatican or in Colorado Springs or Salt Lake City have to say about it, either.
Only YOU know the circumstances of your life. Don't let yourself be bossed around by rich old men who don't even KNOW you.
Consiglieri - "beaten women should give their men a pass"?! FTS! I hope you reincarnate as a battered wife in a Third World country. IMHO, beaten women should take a baseball bat to the beater.

Yahshua did not bring nothing new, he only magnified the Laws of Yahweh for us to understand.
Mat 19:8 He saith unto them, Mosheh because of the HARDNESS OF YOUR HEARTS of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so.
Mat 19:9 And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except [it be] for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.

You do know that Ted's wife is not remarried. Right. And you know that God is not fooled. Right. And if you know how such things work, you know that the Church has to take your word for certain things. But you may fool the Church but not God.
Right, or not ?
