That's a stupid way to look at it.
1. The writer of the book/movie is totally against God, and promotes atheism.
2. His movie is about how God is evil...When that is not true for one second.
3. In the movie, "Lord Asriel" wants to kill God? How stupid is that? Not only is it impossible, it is ridiculous to even think of something like that.
People who are strong in their faith don't bother with watching crap like this. How could you watch something that is trying to turn others against God? And to ignore the fact, and try to "see through the fantasy of it.."?
There is no fantasy. The author is only trying to make this movie seem appealing, with the similar setting of family movies like, the Chronicles of Narnia, (etc...).
So that slowly, they'll influence people who watch this movie "The Golden Compass", to be against God.
It's that simple.
Todd,
"Different way to look at it?" Yeah, which is a stupid way to look at it either way.
Yes, Peter denied Jesus. But there was a reason for that. Peter feared to be associated with Jesus because he thought the authorities were going to kill him. That's why he denied him 3 times, not because he didn't believe in Jesus. I don't know of anyone who thinks Peter is the greatest apostle, so I don't know where you got that from.
I don't question things that God does, because I know he allows things to happen for a reason. But the Bible talks about that God flooded the earth because of all the sin that was happening in the world at that time, and everything was out of control. He didn't do it just out of hate or evil.
If only you would read the whole context of why these things happen, such as floods, plagues etc...It explains cleary why God allowed those things to happen.
Yes..."All things are possible through God". Meaning, all things that we do with God's help, is possible. And, no...God doesn't die, and never will.
Heaven and Hell is a reality, so you need to get used to that ''theory''.
Hmm...A 2000 year old 'book' is what I believe in, yes. How long has this earth been in exsistance? 2007 years. Pretty close time frame I'd say, therefore how could it not be true?
Where did "would you send your kids to a school where the curriculum was based on 2000 year old books?" come from? Curriculum that people learn today is to help them learn basic subjects they'd use in life...Not for their spirituality.
Sorry, but those are two totally different things.
I could prove you wrong on your theories all day, but you're so single minded, it would definitely be like talking to a brick wall.
What made you get the idea that I was "judging people who don't share the same point of veiw that I have"? Not once did I pass judgment on anyone.
You need to get your facts straight.

In response to an earlier post.
"That's a stupid way to look at it." Is it?
Or is it just a different way to look at it?
"1. The writer of the book/movie is totally against God, and promotes atheism."
Peter denied Jesus 3 times during one of the most important times in Christian lore, yet Christians still consider him one of the great apostles. What's worse? Not believing at all or pretending to believe until uncomfortably questioned?
2. His movie is about how God is evil...When that is not true for one second.
Not true? Who decided to flood the earth? Who cast plagues down on his own "children"? To believe that "god" doesn't have an evil streak in him is to be as blind to his actions as you are in your faith.
3. In the movie, "Lord Asriel" wants to kill God? How stupid is that? Not only is it impossible, it is ridiculous to even think of something like that.
It's not ridiculous because as you Christians so often say... ALL things are possible through god. All happens to include his own death. Hell, it already happened once on the cross so there goes that theory.
Have you ever stopped to think that man made god and not the other way around? There is NO proof that god exist in any way. There is a 2000 year old book that you lean on, but would you send your kids to a school where the curriculum was based on 2000 year old books?
Religion as a whole poisons society. It's responsible for many, if not all wars and because of your blind faith you leave no room for anything that challenges it. I'm not saying you're wrong for believing in god, but you have the audacity to judge those who don't share your same views. Judge not... Unless it's convenient I guess.
In the end, it's entertainment and unlike the Christians, you didn't a bunch of Atheist lining up to protest The Passion of The Christ... It was other religions that didn't agree with his interpretation.

It might not be that they're not STRONG enough..some people just may find some things offensive. Some people take their faith very seriously. I mean, people feel that they have their souls at stake. When you care enough about something, you don't want anyone trying to destroy the imagine of it. Surely, you can understand that?

Because the fundies are scared that if there's any information out there available to people OTHER THAN pro-Christianity, that people will automatically believe it over Christianity.
You're right. If their ideas are really the best ones out there, then they should stand on their own and not need protection from competition.

I just don't want to support it - the books are a parable about how great atheism is - not enjoyable at all - I could read them
and/or see the movie but don't want to and don't want to
support it with my time or money - don't need to.

i really enjoyed the movie
the comments seem to be coming from people who have neither read the books nor seen the movie.
If they think that His Dark Materials is anti their religions I dread to think what their religion must be like
