You can expect to learn how to just do what you're told and stay in the shadows. Dont try to stand out in possitive or negative way. You should be able to walk up to your
Drill Sergeant at the end of Basic and have him not know who the hell you are. If you can do that, you did a good job.

As for all the people talking how the different places are, I'll break it down like this.
If you are going to be any 11 or 13 series MOS, get ready, because its not going to be fun.
If you arent a 13 series but get sent to Fort Sill... I feel sorry for you.
If you arent an 11 series and get sent to Benning, dont worry about it, they have the 11's seperated into a different units from the poques. So for all the people talking about how hard Benning is... its only hard if you are in OSUT, otherwise it might as well be Ft Jackson.

Pretty much if you dont go to Ft Sill, and you arent going 11 series, dont worry too much.

Forget stress cards, that was an experiment that failed before one cycle was up. Even then you could use them ONCE a day, and they only worked for ten minutes. During that time, the Drill Sgt's would cook up something really nasty for you. You can expect a lack of sleep, a lack of food, and plenty of physical activity. They will yell, they will scream, they will tell you that they hate you. Push through it and graduate. Your platoon must start to work together in order to make the grade. Also, depends on where you go. Any 11 Bravo basic training site will be much tougher. Fort Sill and Fort Leonard Wood are slightly easier and then there's relaxin' Fort Jackson. Some of my guys that went through there said that they were bored! Of course, this may have all changed in six years. Good luck and try to have fun with it.

Does anyone know anymore? Since I've been through basic they have changed a lot of things, like the addition of 'stress cards' which make no sense at all. It deffinately a softer basic training these days.

You should expect lots of rules and regulations--safety, safety, safety...and your SGT to be like you Mom...also it is physically dumbed down so practically anyone can make it through...once you make it through Basic and AIT you will deal with all the same BS as well not to mention being required to kill on order whether you believe it to be right or wrong...you have a choice...check out the following link to jobs in your own state which doesn't blow our tax dollars....

To get a real accurate answer, one would need to know what MOS you're going to be. Basic at Benning is a lot different then basic at Jackson.

What to expect? Expect is to be a lot easier than the Marines, and a little harder than the Air Force and Navy. Why don't you be a real man and join the Marines? Anyone can be a soldier, but only the tough can become a Marine. Think about it. Who wants to be second best?

I am not sure what to expect or how to prepare myself.. those answering this question please answer this as well. How can I train myself. I know they say its toned down and anyone can pass.. but just to be safe.

You should expect that a team of Drill Instructors will take charge of your life and tell you what to do, how to do it, and when to do it. They will drill you, exercise you, educate you in military subjects, and change the way you think about things forever.
