your thyroid is needed for the normal functioning of many bodily functions. While your throat problems may result from the thyroid condition, I'm sure that your doctor just wants to rule out any other causes, such as a throat infection. Once your throat problem is taken care of, your doctor should beging treatment for your thyroid. This is usually managed by one or more drugs that are used to replace the hormones and other chemicals that are usually released by the thyroid to regulate those bodily functions that it controls. Sometimes, this helps the thyroid recover and the thyroid will once again start working on its own. Hopefully, this will be the case with you.

When you are hypothyroid (which is what you are if your thyroid is not functioning or functioning poorly) it can cause a hoarse voice and slow speech. I wouldn't worry about cancer although thyroid cancer is generally a concern with anyone learning that their thyroid isn't functioning properly. I understand where you are coming from. I think you just have a very thorough doctor and I'm sure you have nothing serious to worry about. Like some of the others have said... More than likely you'll need to take a pill once a day. It may take a while to get to the level of medicine that you need. When that phase is over you should feel like a new person. :) Good luck and God bless!

When the thyroid gland stops functioning, the hypothalamus keeps trying to increase the thyroid output by releasing hormones that cause the thyroid gland to grow. This circumstance is called a goiter. Goiters can grow large enough to affect your voice. Its not a serious problem or a sign of cancer.

Yes, being hoarse or having a deepened voice is a sign of hypothyroidism.. Good luck on your ultrasound.

Thyroid medication will shrink any nodules you have on the thyroid and the hoarseness should go away.

Your thyroid has nothing to do with your voice. It regulates hormones production in the the body. You most likely have hypothyroidism, which is an easy fix. You just have to take Levoxyl(levothyroxine) once a day and that will regulate it.

I had hyperthyroidism for awhile, undiagnosed, and they used radioactive iodine to get my thyroid smaller, so now I have hypothyroidism and I just take the pill once a day. It's really not a big deal and you get used to it pretty quickly.
