With the feb 2009 problem with HD tv converter boxes I was wondering who will be manufacturing these boxes. Seems they will need billions of them. Maybe it would be a good time to buy stock in these companies that will be manufacturing these boxes. Anybody have any heads up on this?.

(This answer assumes that you are in the US, but the answer is similar in most of the rest of the world)

Billions of them? How analog TVs do you think there are?

Many of these converters already exist. Everyone that now uses satellite TV or digital cable with an analog TV already has a converter box for those signals.

The 2009 date only applies to over the air (OTA) broadcasts in the US. As of now the US government has allocated money to subsidize about 30 million millions of these starting in Feb 2008. I suspect that they are short by 10-20 million.

It's a little late to buy stocks in these companies. "The market" has known about this for a long time. Also there isn't a great deal of profit margin in a $60 ($20 after using the coupon) converter box.

Converters from four companies have been approved as certified for the government's $40 off coupon program:

DigitalSTREAM, Zenith, Magnavox, and Philco.

Over 100 retailers have been certified receive the coupons including: Best Buy, Circuit City, Kmart, RadioShack, Sam's Club, Sears, Target, Wal-Mart.

By the way, these are not normally called "HD converter boxes". While the boxes can receive "HD" signals, they only convert them to analog TV outputs. The government did this on purpose so people couldn't use their $40 off coupons to get HD tuners for their "HD ready" TVs.

$50 - $80 yet you will get a $40 coupon from the government, only seem for the information superhighway web site with a seek engine. you basically choose one in case you get your television with an antenna (meaning you haven't any longer have been given cable or sat television) and your television is greater effective than a twelve months previous. while you're transforming into television over an antenna get waiting for a much greater valuable photograph and sound and based the place you reside, extra channels.

If Harley Davidson is making a converter box you know it will be quality. You can never go wrong when you buy HD.
