....or is the rift too deep as the theists tend to favour the apple as the key element in the fall from innocence, whilst the Darwinists insist that it's all down to the oranges of species

In the end it is all fruit, so it is edible and therefore, does not have a solution...Great question!

I think this is the key:
http://www.answersingenesis.org/creation/v22/i1/creation.asp

Some day, we are going to find out for sure who is right (the day we die). And the funny thing about the creation/evolution debate is, if the creationists are wrong, it doesn't matter or make any difference. But, if the atheists are wrong, it makes all the difference in the world. As the saying goes: If you are living as if there is no hell, you had better be right.

If God does not exist and we are here as a blind cosmic accident, then there is no such thing as right and wrong. It would be no more wrong for the innocent to suffer than for the ice to melt or the sun to burn. If there is no God, then there is no Supreme Being to which we must give an account—no Judgment Day, no heaven or hell. If this is just a great cosmic accident, then there is no such thing as morality (there is no good or evil). We should just live by the saying, “Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die.”

I wonder, if they truly believe that when you die there is nothing and nothing mattered, then why do they fight and argue so hard against creationism/Intelligent Design? What are they so worried and upset about? Why spend so much of their time trying to persuade others and themselves that it's not right? If there is no meaning to life, why would you care if people are deluded? I think there is something else... deep down in their hearts.

Oh, and it wasn't an apple; it just says "fruit" (Genesis 3:3).

It wasn't an apple. It was probably a fig. Aside from that, creationism CAN be resolved with evolution if you accept (as a Christian) that the Bible is not intended to be taken literally in many of it's stories (point being when Jesus himself talks in parables aka made up stories to make his points understandable). Such as Adam and Eve and the incident of eating from the Forbidden Tree of Knowledge. That time in the Bible, especially in Genesis, is not literal because God transcends time. A day to God could be millions of years. God being the Big Tough Guy that He is would have created science to help us discover ourselves, and that means that He would have allowed Evolution to occur so that we would become the humans we are today.

We're pretty much God's petri dish experiment, stepping in with His white lab coat to intercede (not interfere) when He deems it necessary.

ETA: I REALLY like this response: "Evolution is INCOMPLETE without God. Creationism doesn't address HOW God did it."

That would be like trying to combine God with Satan because creationism is from God and evolution is from Satan.
And that would never ever work just like trying to combine creationism with evolution would never work.
Evolution by the way is from Atheism and is used as a way to disprove the existence of of God and make us think we came from apes and are animals ourselves.
Did you know by the way that Hitler acquired his beliefs from evolution?
Because of evolution Hitler believed those who were closest to apes on the evolution scale should be eliminated from the world and those most evolved and pure should be the only ones allowed to exist.
He believed that black people were almost all ape but Jews were pure ape so he began to exterminate the Jews before anyone else in order to rid the world of apes.
In his sick mind only those with blond hair and blue eyes were pure because they were the most evolved and farthest from being ape so only they should inhabit the world and no one else.
So you tell me how can we combine this type of thinking with the word of God when evolution is about death and the word of God is LIFE.
You can't it just wouldn't work.

I would like to add that if evolution is true then death brought forth life into existence.
But if creationism is true then life brought forth life into existence.
Which makes more sense to you?

How deep is the rift between truth and untruth? Creationists insist that they have the truth, and that evolution is untruth. Those who accept evolution insist the opposite. I don't see a resolution occurring any time soon.

Apples and oranges; cute.

No. Creation and Evolution are polar opposite. Those who try to compromise only succeed in irritating both sides. They are too far apart. Here are some examples:

CREATIONISM
thousands of years
earth before sun
plants before animals
birds before reptiles
God before man

EVOLUTIONISM
billions of years
sun before earth
bacteria before animals and plants
reptiles before birds
Man before God

Take one side or the other; don't try to bring them together.

Yep-its heading in that direction now. Eventually evolution will become finely defined to mean adaptation or variation within a family. That is included in the definition now-but eventually thats all it will be.

I'm a little confused by this question. But I got no sleep last night. But I will tell you this.

Science in itself can help us better understand the creator, and the creations (as many scientists, including Albert Einstein believed).

Maybe understanding science and God are of equal importance.

Creation and evolution are direct opposites . It's one or the other . One is scientific with tons of evidence to support it . The other is superstitious belief .

WTF?
Creationism is a two thousand year old book telling you the earth is six thousand years old.
Evolutionism is a hypothesis theorized by Darwin and articulated over time by geological and anthropological findings, completely backed by radio14 carbon dating and now DNA testing.

Evolution differs with the Bible in time, order, and mechanism. There is to much difference there to justify it without saying that one was just flat out wrong.
