Every morning It takes 10 mins just to wake up my 8yr old to wake up for school. Shes such a heavy sleeper and sometimes I really think she hears me waking her up but she just goes back to sleep and just ignores me. She can even sleep through her alarm clock sounding off for minutes! I know it takes patiences to be a mother but EvERY SINGLE MORNING we have to go through this. It makes me mad some days because this is a routine and I feel she should wake up on her own after i wake her up after a few shakes and scholls to wake up.....Any ideas?

Give her a reward every week she goes at least 4 days without this phenomenon. I am ten and this is how I would like it to be settled, even though I am the lightest sleeper.

A child is not an adult. Just because you jump out of bed doesn't mean anyone else has to. You act like she's doing it on purpose.

Set the alarm ten minutes early, then she will be up when you want her to be up.

Also, take a look at her bed time. If you are doing what most parents now days do and she is up to all hours of the night, then maybe she's not getting enough sleep. An 8yr old should be in bed by 8-8:30.

You are seriously complaining about 10 minutes? Why don't you plan for the 10 min and start to wake her 10 min before you want her to get up. Yes this is routine. HER routine is to sleep 10 more minutes than you want her to. If her 10 minutes in causing lateness, then send her to bed 10 minutes earlier. She obviously needs every minute of sleep she is getting.

My 11 year old daughter takes 20 minutes to choose her outfit, and another 20 to put it on. So I have accommodated by waking her up with 1 hour to do these things, so I do not have to keep at her to be on time. My 8 year old can do everything in about 30, including fixing her hair, so she gets to sleep a little later so they are not fighting over the bathroom.

You just have to set up what works best for her and keeps you less frustrated and frazzled.

I am blessed with a slow child and I COMPLETELY understand. My daughter is 16 and she's no faster than she was at 7. She is in the bathroom for an hour in the morning...the list of things she does? Use the bathroom, brush her teeth, wet her hair and put in her contact....yes, that takes her an HOUR. I am a high energy person that gets things done quickly and our personalities are polar opposites. It is really hard sometimes. Here are some things I have (tried to) learned over the years

1. this is her personality..she is not trying to drive me crazy..it's just who she is

2. no amount of nagging, yelling, irritation or me attempting to make her more like me is going to work

3. Always allow extra time for EVERYTHING. My daughter gets up an hour and a half before school starts...and yes, this requires me to up as well, but oh, well

4. Patience, patience patience and reminding myself that THIS IS WHO SHE IS and she's not trying to drive me crazy (I know that's in here twice but it's the one I have the most trouble with)

There's an alarm that thinkgeek sells that is pretty cool. It shrieks and a propeller "key" goes flying through the air. The only way to turn it off is to retrieve the key and insert it into the clock http://www.thinkgeek.com/homeoffice/lights/9171/

It has a video...it's pretty loud

good luck
