I agree with you on that one its a favorite of mine especially when slowly fished on an intermediate line with a long leader, other flies i really like are the Bristol hopper (lime) fished on a floating lien with a co polymer leader also when it comes to lure like the Dawson's olive another good one to try is the cats whisker with bead chain eyes or at this time of year minkies have still been catching fish.

One of the best I've used is the blue winged olive. It has caught trout for me pretty much anywhere and any time, with size being the only really significant factor. I've had trout refuse a size 20 then go nuts on a 22 or 24, on the same water, same day.

The beaded Olive Matuka and the Zug Bug are the best I've used in Southern Cali.

I've had the most success using an Adams Parachute. Seems to be a great generic Mayfly imitation, works darn near everywhere.

Of course, presentation is pretty crucial, too . . .

If I had to pick just one............no doubt it would be a black bead-head wooly-booger. Anytime of the year, anywhere in the world, any body of water, it just plain catches fish.

I have alway had great luck with an egg suckin leech. Great for trout, salmon and I have even caught large and small mouth bass with it.
