A corn dog is a regular hot dog that's been dipped in corn bread batter and then deep fried (sometimes baked). They're actually really good...but seriously bad for you. They are sometimes served on a wooden stick but can be found without a stick. They're hardly ever sold outside the US, but a few other countries have variations of them. They even have their own holidays...believe it or not! National Corndog Day is a celebration of basketball, the corn dog, tater tots, and American beer that occurs in March of every year on the first Saturday of the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship. I'm not a huge corndog person...but apparently some people are! Hope this helped :)

Some of these answers just go to show how parochial most Americans are. They think that just because something is popular in their country, then the whole world knows of it too.
In fact, in the UK, there are very few people who have ever had a corn dog, and you certainly won't find them on the menu at sporting events.
Please don't be so presumptuous.

The nearest thing we have in the Uk is a battered sausage.

EDIT: Carrie S - You make them sound soooooo appealing lol!

The corn dog or corndog is a hot dog coated in cornbread batter and deep fried in hot oil, although some are baked. Almost all corn dogs are served on wooden sticks, though some early versions were stickless.

Have you never been to a state fair!

Corn dog is a hot dog dunked into a corn bread batter and
deep fried to a golden brown. Add some mustard and you are in for a treat.

Not something for an everyday diet, but once or two a year
indulge. One of my first stops at the State Fair.

Corndogs are pretty much a hotdog on a wooden stick covered in a cornbread batter and deepfryed, sometimes baked. They are really good ! (my personaly opinion)
A big favorite in America usually around summer time at fairs, carnavals and you can also buy them at the grocery store.
Most people enjoy it with mustard or ketchup
.
Here's a picture of one.

Something horrible and fried that Americans eat. It has a hot dog inside it.

edit:
Chris W below: No - that's Corned Dog (a derogatory term for Corned Beef)

A corn dog is a hot dog on a stick that is dipped in cornbread batter and fried. You usually get them at fairs and carnivals, or in the freezer section of the grocery store. As for what is in a hot dog - your guess is as good as mine.

It's a hotdog sausage covered in a greasy crunchy corn condom of a covering with a stuck shoved up it's bottom. They used to eat them a lot in Texas when I lived there.

It's a frankfurter style sausage comprised of lips and butt-holes covered in a cornbread batter coating and deep fried. The whole unholy concoction is then place on a stick and served popsicle stylee. High in fat, salt, cholesterol; devoid of any nutrional value. Also tastes like crap which is why it is commonly served with lashings of ketchup or mustard to hide the taste of fried offal covered in trans fat.

Popular in the US but virtually unheard of elsewhere.
