I was just talking this over with Wolfgang, my cat, this morning. I'd say that since liberals--until the Bush administration drove large numbers of people further left--live in apartments and in cities, they tend to be cat owners.
Wolfgang's opinion is that dogs are great, snarly, smelly beasts. He was shocked to learn that people think they "own" them--or cats.
Having learned that, he's decided that since his Mum, Silver, is highly intelligent, and since he knows that intelligent people are liberal, most cat owners are liberal.
Not bad reasoning for a lowly animal, eh?
What do you think?

Wolfgang knows I was being sarcastic. He sometimes calls himself a "lowly animal," as in, "I may be a lowly animal, but if you don't feed me, I'm going to bite you."

Dear Silver,
I couldn't help but to respond to this well-thought and aptly posed question. My Mum (Shelby) is a Democrat. I picked her up at an adoption fair a while back. (I'm not HER cat as much as she's MY person). Our interview process was lengthy because I wanted to make sure we were compatible and on the same wavelength on many issues. We established sports loyalties, religion and then finally tackled politics. Just by looking at her, I assumed she was a Democrat (how many black females do you know who are not?!) haha. We started talking and I found that she was Catholic. That made me scratch my little head. I thought it was a lost cause as those types tend to have a right-wing point of view. She assured me that all was well...we totally agree on the biggest issue- controlling the domesticated animal population - and that was all that mattered to me.
Her friends who are owned by cats are also Dems, so I think your Wolfgang may be onto something. :-)
Smart people are liberal. That's why they allow themselves to be choesn by cats instead of dogs. Dogs are dumb. They slobber and will come running no matter what. Humans must earn our respect - we don't give it easily.
Ta ta for now!

I agree. I also consulted my cat, Sam. He feels that dogs are inferior because instead of thinking and reasoning, they are more concerned with engaging in stupid activities such as barking at passing cars and playing fetch (a game that obviously shows off the human's dominance). Cats, on the other hand, take time to glance over the newspaper and ponder situations. He told me that when he's sitting on the newspaper, he is not just "in my way," he is actually reading headlines and has taken a particular interest in politics. He absolutely agrees that most cat owners are liberals because if they are smart enough to be a liberal, they also smart enough to own a cat. He added that he would like to meet your cat Wolfgang, so that they could talk politics. He also added that he objects to you calling cats a lowly animal. He is not.

Well, I AM a liberal and I have two cats that own me, one by the name of Wolfgang!!! Wolfgang's middle name is Jaegermeister which is German for "Master of the Hunt" so named because, even though he is strictly an in-door cat, he has managed to bring me a snake, a bird, a billion gazillion lizards and one bunny rabbit. I have a walled in garden area that these animals got into through the drainage holes. Wolfie didn't know how to kill the bunny so it was only missing a patch of fur on its bottom. We took it outside and let it go and still see it around occasionally. We know it's the same rabbit because that patch has never re-grown hair!!!
Wolfie is my Alpha cat and struts his stuff regularly. Until my little female, Rudy, gets tired of it and puts him in his place! He weighs 25 pounds and she weighs 8!

I am a liberal and I have three cats. They are bright, independent, creative, and funloving, just like me and my liberal friends. I got the cats because I do live in an apartment, and when I first moved here, they didn't allow dogs.
Once my apartment people changed the rules, I did get a dog, and I must say, I do love him. He is a fluffy doofus, and he relies on me to do everything for him. He is very non-liberal like, and I have endearing feelings for him, much as I have endearing feelings for the doofusy, misguided conservatives.

Well, I'm mom to a lovely 16-year-old cat and a proud liberal. But I live in a city, and my apartment building doesn't allow dogs. I'm also a busy woman with little time to care for a dog. So if liberals are mostly in urban areas, it may explain why they tend to live with cats instead of dogs. Liberals also don't believe in unquestioning loyalty, which is associated with teens.
But doesn't/didn't GWB have a cat named India in addition to his two Scottish Terrors?

I am a Liberal and I have eleven cats. I can't discuss what they talk about over the Internet. If Steve found out that I was using their computer to talk to other humans you would never hear from me again. All I can say is that they are NOT plotting anything.

the theory you do not evaluate your self a lib or a con, is betrayed via the paragraph in simple terms above that assertion. whilst i'm particular the guy who first wrote it had brains, that is for sure an extremely nasty barb against liberals, or "girly-adult males" as is declared. You for sure agree considering you re-published stupidity here.

yeah, probably, which is strange. it must be remembered that over 400 cats voted republican in the last presidential election. not one cat reported as voting democrat! then again, nearly a thousand dogs voted republican that year (again, not one vote for a dem - from any animal).
