Well, I'm certainly no Christian, but suffice to say, you will never get a definitive consensus amongst all self-labeled "followers of Christ" on what constitutes "true Christianity."
On a side note, I'd really hate to nitpick, but to refute an earlier post, the Census Bureau is actually prohibited from asking religious affiliation on a mandatory basis. These statistics are collected from outside agencies.

I've asked this question myself on this forum before. I think a christian is someone who believes in Christ as the only means of salvation from sin. I believe that a true christian acknowledges Christ as their Lord. Beyond, that I think there is a lot of liberty and diversity. Christians can disagree on what the Bible says (allegorical parts versus literal). Christians can disagree on politics and social issues. We should all extend to each other the liberty to have these disagreements, and we should not demonize those who disagree with us.
That's pretty much my definition. I hope it was helpful.

I am not a Christian; so there is no question of my answering the question in a 'Christian way' .......
But, as in all religions, a true man of GOD is the one who leads a pious and balanced life; does not kill and/harm any other living being, deliberately and carries out his 'tasks' as a human being in a humane way!!!!!

1. Jesus started one true Christian religion. So today there must be just one body, or group, of true worshipers of Jehovah God. (John 4:23, 24; Ephesians 4:4, 5) The Bible teaches that only a few people are on the narrow road to life.—Matthew 7:13, 14.
2. The Bible foretold that after the death of the apostles, wrong teachings and unchristian practices would slowly come into the Christian congregation. Men would draw away believers to follow them instead of Christ. (Matthew 7:15, 21-23; Acts 20:29, 30) That is why we see so many different religions that claim to be Christian. How can we identify true Christians?
3. The most outstanding mark of true Christians is that they have real love among themselves. (John 13:34, 35) They are not taught to think that they are better than people of other races or skin color. Neither are they taught to hate people from other countries. (Acts 10:34, 35) So they do not share in wars. True Christians treat one another as brothers and sisters.—1 John 4:20, 21.
4. Another mark of true religion is that its members have a deep respect for the Bible. They accept it as the Word of God and believe what it says. (John 17:17; 2 Timothy 3:16, 17) They treat God's Word as being more important than human ideas or customs. (Matthew 15:1-3, 7-9) They try to live by the Bible in their everyday life. So they do not preach one thing and then practice another.—Titus 1:15, 16.
5. The true religion must also honor God's name. (Matthew 6:9) Jesus made God's name, Jehovah, known to others. True Christians must do the same. (John 17:6, 26; Romans 10:13, 14) Who are the people in your community that tell others about God's name?
6. True Christians must preach about God's Kingdom. Jesus did so. He always talked about the Kingdom. (Luke 8:1) He commanded his disciples to preach this same message in all the earth. (Matthew 24:14; 28:19, 20) True Christians believe that only God's Kingdom will bring true peace and security to this earth.—Psalm 146:3-5.
7. Jesus' disciples must be no part of this wicked world. (John 17:16) They do not get involved in the world's political affairs and social controversies. They avoid the harmful conduct, practices, and attitudes that are common in the world. (James 1:27; 4:4) Can you identify a religious group in your community that has these marks of true Christianity?

A true Christian realizes how totally depraved he is as a result of the Fall, and that his/her salvation depends wholly on God alone. No one can save him/herself because we are dead in our trespasses. We must be brought to life by God who chooses those who are His own. Jesus died on the cross for those whom the Father gave Him, not the whole entire world (it's a select amount of people that are truly saved); no free will - we do nothing to 'contribute' to our salvation. Salvation is not merited but is only by the grace of God. We deserve eternal damnation for our sins and should never forget that.

Us true Christians believe everything in the King James version of the Holy Bible (the perfect word of God in its original language - English), and know that homosexuals, children who curse at their parents, and adulterers (except male ones) should be stoned to death by the entire congregation. We believe that all the other religions are false and, if you disagree, you are wrong.
We believe that Christianity is true because it is the oldest religion and thus must be true. You may point out that Hinduism or Buddhism or Judaism is older, but I was talking about the oldest true religion.
And one more thing, if you don't share my beliefs, you're going to hell.

Creation gave the most correct answer - being a Christian requires no more than what he stated, although many of the Christian faith will try to convince you and others differently.

One that is born again.
That is the only requirement. "IF" one is born again, then everything else will fall in line.
No rules or regulations, no specific version of the Bible, no particular denomination, no sacraments, no anything else at all.

Someone who is born of the Spirit, cleansed by His blood, joint heirs with King Jesus & made part of the family of God.
Children are an example of the Kingdom of God, because they trust & obey God & haven't purposely rebelled against Jesus. So? Children haven't yet hardened their conscience (died / blinded spiritually) because of rebellion & pride.
Jesus said that to enter into His Kingdom, we need to be like these Children. Loving Jesus & trusting & obeying Gods Word. Jesus said we need to be born again, from above (spiritually).
When we rebell/sin, the wages of sin is death. Our sins separate us from God. This is where spiritual blindness /death occures. We must realize we need a Savior then receive Salvation through faith in Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God.
Whosoever confesses Jesus Christ their Lord & believes He raised from the dead will be saved. Receive eternal life. But this is knowing who Jesus Is. He is our Savior from our sins, because he died for the remission of our sins. He raised from the dead for us.
Who is a true Christian. Someone who is born of God. Who is he who overcomes? He who is born of God. What is our victory? Our faith.
