i been at my new job at a law firm for like 10 months now and during this time the bosses wife " office manager" is always stressing attendence. i have missed lots of days because of my one year old being sick but recently i missed a few days for me being sick. i go in work what i can then leave because i am so sick that i should of never even gone in in the first place. i think is she going to tell me something about this. what can i say besides well im sick and what more do you want from me. people get sick. she is an ex nurse and protrays that she is almighty, help.

Your job allows a certain number of sick days.. you can take these paid sick days anytime you want. If you exceed the amount of days then yes, your company can fire you for being out of work too much.. they can just say that your performance is lacking. Be careful.. I know people get sick but you don't want to be out of a job either. If your child is sick that is one thing.. but you being out sick is another. Try taking better care of yourself.. take vitamins, drink herbal tea.. take cold ease zinc tabs.. drink OJ. Stay healthy so you don't get sick. Best Wishes!

Most companies have a policy of how many sick days they are willing to pay you for. It sounds like you may have exceeded them. Look at it from her position: They hired you to do a job, and when you aren't there, the job doesn't get done, or else it imposes extra work on other people who ARE there.

Instead of getting defensive about missing so many days, why not be proactive? Go to her and say, "I know my number of sick days has put a stress on the office -- what can I do to help?" Either offer to take work home, if that's possible, or to stay after work some to catch up.

The thing that frosts most employers are employees that don't seem to care if the job gets done or not. If you show you care about the job, she's more likely to work with you.

It does not matter how well you do your job..if you are not there to do it, the company has every right to get someone in who will be there. This issue is not about who is sick or when..it is about being accountable for yourself. If you need a job with more leeway in terms of time off, get it, but dont think you are a victim here...you are not. Yes, people get sick and I concur that you need to stay home when you ARE sick. The same is true for your child. This is life happening and the fact that she is an ex nurse, feels almighty or whatever, is irrelevant. You need to do what is best for you and your family.

I agree with getting documentation when someone is sick. People get sick- it's a fact of life. Plus I'm sure they knew you had a kid when you started there. People with kids always take more days off anyway (no offense) so that's something they knew going into it. I guess wait until she says something- because there isn't more you can say besides "I was sick". No one is almighty- people get sick, it's a given. You're human right? That's what I would say.

you need to realize that the reason attendance is stressed is because the office needs the help. you are getting paid for your commitment to the job. why shouldn't they hire someone else who will show up on a regular basis. if you want to keep your job stop making excuses and see a nutritionist.

if you're sick, stay off and get a certificate, saying you are sick.

If the child is sick, do whatever you said you'd do at the interview, in the event of a sick child

to the best of my knowledge you cannot fire someone for
being ill. consult an employment attorney.

watch your back and get doctor verification for your sickness as well as your child's.....if you produce such documentation, she cannot legally fire you for it.....
