It could have gotten caught in a corner of the cage or in a toy.
Your other bird may have bitten it off. I have had that happen when one bird was crawling around on the outside of another birds cage.
If you don't have the styptic powder, use a bit of cornstarch, it works better than flour.
Birds do have just a small amount of blood in their little bodies, so you have to be careful.
A trip to the vet is only necessary is the bird is acting funny, loss of balance, weakness that won't go away.
Try to get him to drink water, or juice if he has a favorite juice, the sugar will help and he needs liquids back in his body.
You can call the vet for suggestions.

HERE IS THE DEAL - so don't freak from everything all the amatures are telling you.
If the bird's nail is not actively and heavily leaking blood, you DO NOT need to go running off to the vet. If your bird is in general good health, it should clot on its own. If it is dripping blood that just won't quit try what they others have mentioned; use flour or cornstarch because styptic powder burns open wounds of the skin.
It also helps if you remove the bird from the cage and put it in another smaller cage without perches. This way, your bird will stay calmer, thus causing its heart to not pump the blood as quickly. The bird can either stand on the floor of the cage or better yet, it will probably cling to the side of the bars thus bringing its foot a bit higher than its heart and also helping to slow the blood.
The nail probably got caught between something in the cage (a toy or cage bars) and the bird pulled hard enough to pull the nail off. Or, perhaps one of the other birds may have bitten your cockatiel's toe in a fight that you were unaware of.
You can email me at dgoodacer@yahoo.com if you have other questions.

If it is still bleeding you can put some styptic powder or even flour on it to clot it. You can do this by putting an amount of either in shallow dish and have your bird walk through it a few times (if he'll walk). I would call your vet, or if you don't have one for your birds find a vet that specializes in birds and call them to see if you should bring him in or not. Good luck, hope your little guy feels better.

Never heard of that before but the bird could have lost the nail in an accident. Put some Styptic Powder on it to stop the bleeding.

do not waste extra funds on the vet. Use a moist fabric and positioned tension on the wound. That the vet did not see the decrease is ...........what am i able to assert? Get some Kwik supply up from a feed keep and which will supply up the bleeding. I even have had parrots for 12 years and not in any respect had one lose a blood feather. Is the cage super sufficient for the fowl?

Si=orry only just found this if you do not have styptic powder then use CORN flour This will help the wound coagulate Its the next very best thing to use and more importantly works beautifully.

A Cockateil can DIE from loss of blood from such an injury!!
Get him to an Avian Vet NOW!!
In the meantime use flour or ( even better ) corn starch to try to stop the bleeding!!
Get moving!!!

I've seen that before; apparently the claw gets stuck somewhere and it gets torn off. In my experience, it always heals up fine.
