My daughter (8) and my son (5) both told me that they believe they heard the voice of God calling their names -two separate occasions both by themselves - I dont believe that they are making this story up b/c it happened over a month ago and they just told me for the first time, in a kind of matter of fact way - neither were scared but didnt know what to make of it and both said it wasnt someone calling them for upstairs b/c they said the voice came from right next to their face
any thoughts??

Now you have hit the nail on the head. THIS is why I am so down on Fundamentalist, even now that I am a Christian. You ask... 'what have we ever done to you".... LET ME TELL YOU. When I was in my 20s I was an Atheist and my father died. He was a good and loving man. He was not a Christian. And I worked for a place that was crawling with Christians. They even had a bible study at noon. I was tolerant of them. But this one young woman always gave me a hard time. One day she said to me "your father is in hell and you are going to go right there with him". My response to the ***** was "if that is the type of God there is, heaven isn't a place I would want to be anyway". That was over 35 years ago and I have never forgotten her narrow minded bigoted thinking. Do people really think that this type of talk will win people to God?

Not a problem in my sight. Next time they tell you this ask them what they believe God said to them. Judge what they say against the Bible and then your own instincts. I am assuming you are a confessing Bible believing Christian. One of the roles we as parents have is to guide our children in the way they should go. Some times that means we let them do what they see as being right. Another role is to keep them from doing what we know is wrong. If what they feel they should be doing is legal, moral, does not contradict the Scriptures, let them go. You may need to guide them a little. If it does, stop them.

Really scary and very worrying!!!

Talking to God is called prayer - God talking to you is called schizophrenia!!!

Some think that is a joke but psychiatrists tell you it is absolutely true and a precursor to some really bad illnesses!!!!

Either someone is misleading your children or they are showing signs of psychological or psychiatric disorders.

Not even the Catholic church which likes visions believes such things happen.

You must consider carefully whether there is someone who is leading your children astray - and that would be child abuse - pure and simple, or, get them in front of a child psychologist as soon as possible.

Whether you are Christian or not you have a responsibility to look after the welfare of your children and if you will not then the authorities may well have to step in!!!!!

No.
But I would not try to stifle it, or make a big deal of it. Since it was both of them and not just one-gives some room of concern. I would pay attention-silently.

I am not a Christian parent but have experienced what your child's experience before. I was born and raised in a Christian family home in WA State. I was around 8 years of age when God came to me and spoke to me in a dream about my stepfather. God gave me a vision of what was about to happen in the future. He told me that my stepfather was going to loose his job. He was then going to be jobless for sometime after that. After I woke up God had told me that I needed to go and tell my mom about my dream.

So I got up and my mom was on the phone with her friend. She asked me what I was going up and said that I should be in bed. She thought that I might of had a bad dream. I told her that God said to me that Steve (My stepfather) was going to loose his job tomorrow and we needed to be prepared. My mom didn't believe me and tucked me back into bed. She then kept talking on the phone with her friend.

The next morning before noon around 11am my stepfather comes home from work early. He got fired from his job of 18 years with the parks department. He didn't find a job until 6 months later after that.

Please believe your children when they say things because it's true. From that time on I have heard God several times and my mom has believed me since. I think your children are fine there is nothing wrong with them. I think you should ask god what he is trying to tell them.

Read I Samuel 3. If your children are in tune with the LORD than it may be Him speaking to them. If not then they can be in serious trouble.

While I'm a Christian parent and would love to believe this, it is possible they were on the fringe of sleep and heard you calling them.

It happened to me also as a child. I would listen to your little ones.
