lighten up a bit?! I have just read yet ANOTHER detailed post about how awful a Christian woman was to wish a non Christian 'Merry Christmas'.

This is all getting absurd! I'm Jewish and am very happy to be wished 'Merry Xmas' - I mean, it's a nice thing to say to someone and it is not offensive! So to all you non Christians out there: remember, if 'Merry Christmas' is the worst thing anyone says to us, we'll be blinking lucky!!!

Shalom to all, Merry Xmas, and Happy Chanukah :)

Maybe somepeople find it offensive for whatever reason, but when I was at school (Roman Catholic, by the by), whenever it was Hannukah, or another religions holiday, we would learn about it and respect it. So, to get us in the spirit, we would say 'Happy Hannukah' to everyone we met during that day, or 8 days, no matter whether we where Christian, Jewish, or another religion, and people would not see offense, they would see the smile on our faces and say it back. No matter what religion we celebrate, a holiday is a time where people come together to celebrate, and to be happy, and I think that people should see the good faith in their message, rather than the words they use to get the message across.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, and a Happy New Year.

I am in full agreement with the posting and all the responses I've viewed so far. I for one spend no time at all worrying about how to be offended by anything anyone says to me or of me. I wish to wish you a a very Merry whatever it is you celebrate. We're all in the same boat, lets get along.

I'm Jewish.

If someone says Merry Christmas with a big smile to me, I smile and say Merry Christmas back.

If someone says "May Jesus bless you" I change it just slightly and say something like "May G-d bless you, too" being very careful not to have a tone of voice that seems like I'm correcting them.

In the Talmud, in Berachos, it says we are allowed to transgress any positive mitzvah in order to not embarrass another person. And that it is impossible to transgress a negative mitzvah while doing a positive mitzvah.

I consider being a part of another person's spiritual arousal to be a positive mitzvah.

Shalom,
Gershon

. . . .and "Amen" to that ! :-)

This whole "PC" thing has gotten so far out of hand, it's become a farce.

I figure any time anyone's focusing their energy in a positive
spiritual direction, we're doing *** REAL*** good !

Merry Xmas and Happy Chanukah right back atcha' ! :-)

Political correctness and oversensitivity SUCK.
Even I say Merry Christmas, and I'm an atheist. So sue me.

Thank you, Paperback. If a person doesn't like the particular words, perhaps they could just focus on the good wishes behind the words!

Happiness to everybody, whatever you celebrate.
