I do it for my wife fairly often. I prefer doing highlights and lowlights at home, because the salon does them sooo chunky and unnatural looking. For an all over dye, I can do that too but it doesn't look any different from the salon. Her hair looks really nice. It's a waste of money to get it done at the salon if you have somebody that can help you do it at home.

It depends on how talented you are... some people can't follow the directions, or pick the wrong colour for their hair or try to use a different company's product to touch up previously coloured hair.
I get my hair done at the salon whenever possible... but certain times of the year that $150.00 bill just isn't possible...
I swear by Loreal home colour - especially Feria. The colours aren't too complicated to match.
If you want to streak or foil your hair at home, forget it - unless you have a very talented friend to do it for you.
Remember, if you mess it up it will cost you lots of greenbacks to get a salon to colour correct your hair. So if you are in doubt, don't. Leave it to the professionals.

I love Loreal. I have always dyed my hair at home for 6 years. Different colors, different brands and Loreal is my favorite. I recently went to a salon for the first time ever and got highlights. They did an awesome awesome job, but it's just too expensive for me. I stick to the at home stuff. I think my hair looks fine, and I dye it at home.

yeah i dye my hair ALL THE TIME at home. just find a hair color CLOSE to the one you already have. because for some reason the color is never as pretty as it looks on the box. i have NEVER died my hair at a salon... only at home and the last color i died it (by the way it was the first time i went red) i wasn't HORRIBLE but too dark and looked nothing like it did on the box... afterward i tried a reddish brown and since it's closer to my natural hair... it looks real nice. :)
if you could... get some one to help you with it! oh and a tip... if your dying it a bright color such as red... give it a wash with vinegar and it'll seal the cuticle and not let it wash off soo fast.

actually, i dye my hair, and it looks just as good as if a salon does it, although it does not last as long. If your going to dye your hair at home, make sure to get a good brand of hair dye (not just the cheapest kind), and get a friend to help you.

I've never had my hair dyed in a salon -- I've done it myself every time, and it always looks great. Just ask my friend A. Venger -- she'll vouch for me!
