You are very right.
The world is actually getting much better for us.
Our lives are more fulfilling now, we live longer, less children die at birth, indoor heating, sewage systems, and computers make life 1000 times better than it was 100 years ago.
War and disaster are still struggles for the human race, but now that we have a way to communicate more effectively, its just a matter of time, till a majority of us realize that we are all similar, despite skin color and culture. Once that happens, religion will start to wain and so will violence and war.
The future is very bright, and you have to ignore reality to think that it isn't.
One of my biggest beefs with religion is that it teaches people that mankind is evil, and the future is going to be a terrible place that a God will be forced to destroy. Its a terrible thing to teach children.

I would like to believe there is more good in the world then bad and I'm sure there is more good then even I recognize however I don't see society getting better but worse and the crimes I see these days were beyond comprehension when I was younger. People respected each other more even if they didn't agree with you.
Now people will put a pistol to the head of 1 month old child and pull the trigger.
People will enslave women for years and for them into prostitution while beating them and forcing them to live in trash.
and the list of evil goes on, and on.

I like the idea of heck. It doesn't sound so terrible.
What would heck be? Long lines at the checkout? Getting the wrong order at the drive-thru? Losing your keys every morning?
But to answer the question...yes, good things happen, too. I can't think of any that have happened yet today, but the day is young. I like your attitude.

Your question is fraught with assumptions that would take hours to deal with ("No best answer for me !!").
First of all , about going to h in a handbasket. Both that and going to heaven in a handbasket are in process, so it's hard to get emotional about the end of something that is still in process.
But the 'goodness happens'. Of course, God makes the rain to fall on good and bad alike. Rain being a good thing in this context.
Today I heard from someone I hadn't heard from in 13 years, right out of the blue.

Yeah, I know what you're saying--something I've always wondered, too, is why people use the slang "That's the sh*t" to describe something good.
Anyway, as for encountering goodness, my 3 year old son picked up the baby's bottle and put it in the sink without being told this morning. I think that's pretty good. :)

I met white man who believed like the black man and they both shook hands saying the same thing about people who are prejudice and hate without any reason. "They should be put in jail or mistreated for denying people to be different that don't harm others just because of color".
Yeah, it's 2007 and America really needs to get along better so that when foreign country's appose us we can truly say " we love everyone, and it shows"

Today is my last day of class, I have gotten good grades posted today for classes I have finished.
If sh*t happens to one person maybe it's for the good of another. These are just expressions, don't take them so literally or you will make yourself nuts

Goodness is over shadowed by the wickedness of this world. One must act to evolve change.
Perhaps your question is inspiration to generate action in others? Let us all everyone act on this quandary by reaching out to those who we do not know, with kindness this Christmas season.
Was the mission of Christ to spend time with His family and friends or did he seek out those who where different, poor, rejected, less fortunate, in bondage, and prideful?
Random acts of kindness unnoticed are more rewarding than public displays of charity. God bless

Jesus followers asked what the sign of his presence would be and this was his answe to them
" While he was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples approched him privatley, saying: Tell us When will these things be and what wil be the sign of your presence and the conclusion of the system of things? And in answer Jesus said to them Look! out that nobody misleads you; for many will come on the basis of my name saying I am the Christ and will mislead many. You are going to hear of wars and reports of wars;see that you are not terrified. For these things must take place but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be food shortages and earthquakes in one place after another.
Matthew 24:3-7
" But know this that in the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here. For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, selfassuming, haughty, blasphemers, disobediant to parents, unthankful, disloyal, having no natural affection, not open to any agreement, slanderers, without self control, fierce without love of goodness, betrayers, headstrong, puffed up with pride, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godly devotion but proving false to it's power."
2 Timothy 3:1-5
Unless we are ostriches sticking our head in the sand or we are unbelievers,, the prophesy is on every television station and in every newspaper we are in the last days,,, after this though then we shall see goodness and the true purpose God intended. But as Jesus said these things Must take palce First.
Then this will be realized:
17 “For here I am creating new heavens and a new earth; and the former things will not be called to mind, neither will they come up into the heart. 18 But exult, YOU people, and be joyful forever in what I am creating. For here I am creating Jerusalem a cause for joyfulness and her people a cause for exultation. 19 And I will be joyful in Jerusalem and exult in my people; and no more will there be heard in her the sound of weeping or the sound of a plaintive cry.”
20 “No more will there come to be a suckling a few days old from that place, neither an old man that does not fulfill his days; for one will die as a mere boy, although a hundred years of age; and as for the sinner, although a hundred years of age he will have evil called down upon him. 21 And they will certainly build houses and have occupancy; and they will certainly plant vineyards and eat [their] fruitage. 22 They will not build and someone else have occupancy; they will not plant and someone else do the eating. For like the days of a tree will the days of my people be; and the work of their own hands my chosen ones will use to the full. 23 They will not toil for nothing, nor will they bring to birth for disturbance; because they are the offspring made up of the blessed ones of Jehovah, and their descendants with them. 24 And it will actually occur that before they call out I myself shall answer; while they are yet speaking, I myself shall hear.
25 “The wolf and the lamb themselves will feed as one, and the lion will eat straw just like the bull; and as for the serpent, his food will be dust. They will do no harm nor cause any ruin in all my holy mountain,” Jehovah has said.
Isaiah 65:17-25
